Crash to desktop.

The latest Air Battle game from Microsoft! Running on an entirely new platform, CFS3 is raising it's fair share of problems & opinions - Good & Bad!

Crash to desktop.

Postby Akula. » Sun Aug 05, 2007 9:33 am

I've just managed to crash CFS3 four times in a row, simply trying to open the game up. It always does this; if it doesnt crash on startup it crashes 5 minutes later, half way through a flight. The longest I think I've ever gotten CFS3 to stand on its own feet for is about half an hour. I've always had this problem, on several computers. Is CFS3 just incredibly badly written? Am I unlucky enough to have bought conflicting hardware for my last 3 computers? Does somebody up there hate me?  ::)

Im pretty annoyed with this right now. I just cant quite understand how any peice of software can crash this often, so badly.

Maybe that's the reason why so many Simmers preferred CFS 2, even after CFS 3 was released?.... ::)...!

I can't ever remember ever having any problems with CFS 2... :)...!

Yeah I still use CFS2 from time to time, but stupid things like not being able to survive ramming, flying 20ft over the deck of a battleship and still registering a collision, and the overall lack of stunning graphics drives me back to CFS3.

Are there any decent combat sims out there which have good graphics and dont crash every time you click the icon?

You may jest, Paul, My old Chum.... :)...

...but one of the first things I did after I purchased my copy of CFS 2. was to install some of my favourite aircraft from my FS 2000/2002, like my Cessna 152, my Beech Baron 58, etc, and a couple of Ultralights/Flexwings, and just have fun cruising gently round the Islands.... :)...!

...I don't remember shooting or bombing anything.....
...too much stress involved in that sort of activity for my liking...

...I leave that to the Marines... ;)...!

LOL.... ;D...!

Paul.... ;)...!

first and foremost you would have had more and quicker answers at Sim-Outhouse where most of cfs3ers hang about.
Lock ups AFTER you closed cfs3 : nothing to do with cfs3 then. Something to consider there could be overheating of your computer, especially if you have overclocked your processor. A bit of dusting of the interior of your computer case may be in order.
For the others : have you installed add-ons? A faulty install of some add-ons will make you CTD, no matter what. But in that case, cfs3 is not to blame.
Finally, a lot of locking up problems I've seen were caused by people having not up-to-date drivers for their system, be it DirectX, their vid card, their sound card, etc... whatever : update!

Akula, I've seen in another thread you maybe modified some files from the planes. If you messed up somehow, remember that cfs3 can randomly spawns aircrafts so even if you're flying another one, your mission will make you CTD. Seems the most plausible answer, save for cpu overheating as I explained before.
Cfs3 has some bugs, but in my experience, most of the problems come from faulty mods or messy computer maintenance.
