Installation stopped at 20%

I've just started to play csf3 again and I'm unable to install disk 1; it stopped at 20% while in the process of copying aircraft.cfg files.  I've never encountered this problem before.  There're bags of disk space in my hard drive: I'm running WinXP, Asus A8N SLI Mobo, AMD CPU 3200+, 7800gt graphic card.  I've installed other games recently without any problems.  I've noticed a few minor scratches on disk 1; can this be the problem?  please advice

Try cleaning the disk with a lint free rag. That normally does the trick Failing that it might be your CD-ROM drive needs cleaning.

That worked for me when I had to do a reinstall, give it a go..
