Any more aircraft?

Postby NoseDive » Mon May 10, 2004 2:27 am

Does anyone know how to get more aircraft available in the stock campaigns? I've flown a few now but when I fly as an RAF fighter pilot I only get the option of Spitfire or Typhoon. It would be  nice to fly a few 'Mossie' missions. I know that, technically, it's a fighter-bomber but most of the point-scoring missions in the campaigns are figher-bomber missions. I've seen it come up as 'now available' in the news bulletins but I don't get to fly it - sob! :'(

I would imagine that all you'd have to do is edit the stock missions aircraft choices using M$ Mission Editor which you can download from their website.
Of course I'm an FD specialist not a mission designer... failing that there are plenty of really good missions available for download that should fill your hearts every desire for destruction and mayhem ;D

Ozzy, in CFS3 the campaign is computer generated and there are no files for any one mission.  In fact, I think there is only one file for the whole campaign.  You can edit the user data stored in "My Documents\Combat Flight Simulator 3.0 and the aircraft you are allowed to fly, but you must do this after every mission.  I agree with Ozzy on this though:

Thanks Guys,

I've downloaded a few 3rd party missions and, in the main, they are very good. I just fancied a bit more variety on a campaign that comprises mainly ground-attack missions. Nice though the Spitfire and Typhoon are, it does get a bit monotonous after a while. There must be something, somewhere, that defines which aircraft can be used on a campaign - I'll keep hunting.

In the CFS3\campaigns folder is a file called fortress europa.xml.
Open this one in a text editor or a special xml editor if you have one.
Locate the techtree section and add any plane you wish there using the same format as shown.
Use the name of the aircraft's main m3d file as found in the aircraft folder and add a service entry.
Save, start a new campaign.

BTW, the Mossie doesn't show up in the fighter career as it's a tactical bomber in CFS3.
You can only select it in a bomber career if or just alter the aircraft's xdp in the first line where it sais "tactical_bomber".
Change this to "fighter_bomber", save, delete the plane's bdp file (will be created new automatically) and a start a new campaign as mossie fighter pilot ;)
note this tweak will give you missmatches when you fly online.

I finally got round to trying it and it works a treat. Now I've got the MkVI Mossie, strafing and bombing factories, V1 sites etc are a whole lot more fun.

Thanks for your help. ;D
