What are Virtual Airlines?

Postby sunlord_clave » Sun Sep 02, 2007 5:47 am

Hey,

I just found out that there are many many Virtual Airlines websites on the Interweb. Can someone just give me a general gist of what it is basically about?

They're just like real airlines but for FS. You have a certain number of flights to do per month etc. Promotions etc. Fun if you like that sort of thing. Have a browse of this forum to get some idea of the variety involved. There are also virtual air forces as well ;)

Are they good for (sort of) beginners? I can fly from one place to another with the help of my autopilot and gps without any problems. How many flights would I do a month?

How exactly does your flight hours get recorded with the main site database? Do you have to manually report how many hours you've done or is it all taken care of behind the screen? And do you need to have a mic to join? I assume this depends on which virtual airline website it is.

If you are a beginner, you won't get any better flying on autopilot.  Not to mention many Va's have checkrides and tests to make sure you know what you are doing.  Practce in the 172, then work your way up.  You'll get there!

Check rides we dont have. But we do keep an eye on pilots so if there is a recuring problem it gets dealt with quickly. Training isnt a problem either and we have also started our own pilots guide.

As for the Mic if your going to be flying offline then no you wont need one and we do allow for that. If you want to join in on training or multiplayer then yes a mic is needed.

Regardless, flying on autopilot only without understanding what's going on won't get you far in the real world.
