Can you multiplayer in CFS?

I know this is probably really old hat for most of you simmers, but I just talked my brother into flying and thought an easy intro to the fun would be through the original CFS. We've tried the IP protocol and can't seem to connect and fly head to head. Is it even possible anymore?
