Hop list tip of the day

I have started my way out into the Pacific on the hop list this week, and thought it would be neat, and helpful for others, if we mentioned what planes we are using for this part of the trip, and what kind of times en route we are seeing.

The distances in this section of the hop are rather large, so I imagine that some would want to make these trips in as quick a time as possible.

For the first leg from Honolulu to Johnston Atoll, I used an A340 at 20k ft.
The trip took just over 2 hours to travel the 713nm.

For the second which I completed yesterday, I used the Concorde at full throttle with a full tank of fuel, and completed the 1,256nm trip in just under an hour, with just enough fuel left to taxi to the gate. :D

The longest of the Pacific hops is now behind me, with the rest averaging around 400nm until I reach Sydney.

I hope to hear from some others flying the hop. :)

I'm still flying the Hawaiian part. Nice and short flights I can do with my single engine prop...

Crash ;) (modifying a Cessna with a jet engine)

The Pacific flights are LONG, boy I can't wait till I get to Sydney. ;D ;D

Then the real scenic flying can begin.

But on a brighter note, I'm finally getting to see all of the addon scenery I have for these remote islands, and most of them are very nice. If the authors can take the time to make them so good, I can take the time to fly out and see them. ;)

I ran into a massive squall today between Nauru and Tarawa, had to climb up to 35k just to get over this beast, easily 100 miles wide. :o

Just a couple more to go until I hit Aussie-land!! :)

I must admit, I have used the SR-71 for a few of these long hops, when all I have to look at is open ocean, I don't mind it passing by at mach 4! ;D ;D ;)

One last leg of the Pacific hop to go and I'll be in Sydney! [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

My last flight into Lord Howell Is., I ran into another pretty big storm. The conditions for landing were Extremely poor and required a go around, as I wasn't paying enough attention and came in way to high. :-[

I used a mix of the A340/737/SR-71/ & Concorde for all the flights in the portion of the hoplist and never spent more than 2 hours in the air, so all in all not a terrible idea to have such large distances in the hoplist. ;)

I sure will be glad to get back to some low & slow in Aussie land though. ;D

Made it to Sydney this morning, and have started my way around. [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Back to flying the Baron, and other fun small things. ;)

Make sure you start the flight into Sydney around 5:30am, the sunrise hitting the harbour as you arrive is beautiful. ;)

Having some wonderful flights in Aussie land, but I'm telling you, after I left Tasmania and got further West, there is a lot of NOTHING out here! ;D ;D

Some of these Western Aussie flights are a little long, just because there is nowhere to stop for a couple hundred miles. :o

I've almost made it to the West coast, having great fun in my S7. ;)

Only one hop away from Sydney. Maybe I'll fly it tonight. Would be nice to see some solid ground under me instead of hundreds of miles of water...

Crash ;)
