Multiplayer issue...PLEASE help!!!

Postby kingmarktheaviator » Tue Apr 10, 2007 2:00 pm

Hey,
Everything has been good with FSX up until now,
However....
I was having an online session today with a close friend, and we wanted to share my aircraft.  We have done it before without any problems but this time, we didn't have the option in the briefing room to "Join Aircraft" of eachother.
Before anyone asks whether I enabled aircraft sharing in the multiplayer options, I did  :P
I explored a lot of options, but nothing.  We both tried hosting a session, to no avail.
This problem has fully stumped me.  If anybody can help, it would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Mark

My dad and I are having the same issues.  We went through and followed the step-by-step instructions all to no avail.  No matter what we have tried, we cannot share the same aircraft.

Help?

Let's move it to Mulriplayer where it can get a proper discussion, shall we?  ;)

Let's move it to Mulriplayer where it can get a proper discussion, shall we?  ;)

Kevin, know that I respect you and the entire Admin staff a great deal.  Also, I am not about to flame or rant about an admin decision, though I may want to discuss it.  Of course, I love being here at SimV, too.  It is a great place.  So, please, don't send me out the door without a parachute for this, but . . .

This does not seem to have been a very helpful move.  While kingmark and I both had the same "multi-player" issue, that issue was specifically something to do with FSX.  Furthermore, my father, though not a member of this forum (he is not big on the whole forum idea), is having the same exact issue - with FSX.

Now, most problems in the FSX or FS2004 thread get discussed within minutes, or at most an hour or two.  But, this thread has now languished for half a day with nothing more than getting moved.  I fear that when people see a "moved" attached to a thread, they may readily pass over that thread.  Also, the multi-player thread, though definitely having life of its own, does not seem to enjoy the same level of attention (look at both location, number of threads, and post count).

Now, I am completely willing to admit to being wrong about my fears.  Maybe everyone is just busy flying or repainting their aircraft, and even as I speak, the SimV community is typing away a solution.  Also, I cannot say that I have done a statistical analysis to qualify my above statement.  It is very much a first impression sort of thing.  Furthermore, I am not simply trying to complain without cause or suggestions, and I am certainly not meaning this as disrespect.

But, what I would suggest is that perhaps a catch-all multi-player forum does not provide enough focus for questions of concern to either FSX or FS2004 multi-player issues (I have both, and think both have relevant and very different issues for each).  We allow for all sorts of game specific questions in the relevant title threads, be it from altering .cfg files to tweaking the graphics sliders to service pack usage to installation.  Why are the multi-player functions of the game being cast off on their own?  If the question were along the lines of who wants to join a multi-player session or something not problem oriented, I would understand the move.  But, this question is about a problem with the FSX game itself not functioning as it is supposed to.

Sigh.  Sorry for writing so long a post, and I am sorry if I was not able to make my concerns clear on the matter.  Certainly I am sorry if I caused any offense, though I do stick by my opinion on the matter.  Don't worry, if nothing changes, I am not about to go tearing off on the warpath or anything.  If this is where all multi-player issues will continue to reside, I will live with that decision.  I also think it is fair that if we have a question about why things are done a certain way we ask so that we either receive an answer or maybe provide a catalyst for improvements.

AS ALWAYS, all the best to you all!  ;)

PS
I still want to know why shared aircraft isn't working!  ;D

First, you may feel as free as you like to disagree with me and you won't get banned unless you are threatening or do it in such a way as it becomes disrespectful to everyone and interferes with the smooth functioning of these forums.  We are not forum Nazi's like some other sites, and we try to be as relaxed as possible when it comes to people posting.  The only really taboo subjects are:

1: Piracy of Software, which will get the offender an immediate boot.

2: Politics, which will invariably cause arguments and bad feeling all around.

3: Religion, for the same reason as politics.

As for being in the Multiplayer forum; your answer may not come as fast as either of us like, but there are members here who visit only the multi-player forums that know a whole lot more than either of us do about it.  These people are real guru's who not only play multiplayer, but design multiplayer scenarios, organize VA's, etc...  They can give answers that are more detailed, and more accurate than you might get in the FSX forum.

BTW, thanks for doing a search before posting a new topic on this problem.  Most people don't even bother...  ;)  You should get with JBaymore who is very much into the Japanese culture and about as nice a guy as you would want to meet.  :)

There are about 118 Yen to the Dollar right now.  And for the trivia department, the Japanese pronounce it "ehnn".  No "Y" sound.

best,

Xyn_air,

It's about quality, not quantity.

Another factor that is UNFORTUNATE is that not a lot of people actually USE multiplayer, either in fs2004 or FSX.  And multiplayer users in FSX is WAY lower than with fs2004 at this point.  So having multiplayer by itself sort of makes sense...since the topic applys to only a VERY small minority of FS users in general no matter WHAT version they are running.  Sh'kata ga arimasen, ne.

I do understand the reasoning behind the move of this thread.  And, I am perfectly happy to live with the decision that Kevin made.  I did have questions and they were answered.  All in all, I am pretty cool about the whole thing.  I am, as you may have noticed, a person who likes to be able to ask direct questions and state my honest opinion.  However, I do make an effort to do this with respect for all involved.  I think this all worked out well enough.  ;D

The real "hardcore" multiplayer folks are on VATSIM in droves.  Which uses it's own whole interface software.  And at any given point in time there are hundreds and hundreds of aircraft in the air in real time.  And maybe 50 to 100 controllers too.  It is absolutely AMAZING.  BUT..... you'd better be the equiv. of a real world PPL holder before getting on there... because it is "by the book" all the way.  You don;t jump on there flying a 737 unless you probably are already close to the skills of a RW ATP pilot!   ;)

Thanks for the link.  I may check out their site when I have time.  But, you know I am just so enamored with SimV, it will always be my first love.  ;D ;)

I think I understand why MS went with GamSpy.  In the same way they added a lot of non-sim bells and whistles to FS, I think MS is trying to market FS to people who are more general gamers.  Gamespy, though not allowing, perhaps, for some of the connection control, etc., long-time FS users are used to, it theoretically allows gamers who don't want to learn how to control their internet connections use their connections for multiplay.

AS FOR THE ORIGINAL QUESTION, my dad and I figured it out.  The person who wants to JOIN and SHARE another players aircraft must have the "Allow others to share my aircraft" option turned OFF.  If you click this, the game assumes you want your very own aircraft to share, not that you want to be able to share someone else's aircraft (not a very clear option if you ask me).  The person who is doing the SHARING must have the option checked, of course.

Hope that helps whoever was wondering.  It worked for my dad and I.  If I rambled unclearly, let me know, and I will try to re-explain.

As always, all the best,
~Darrin

Yes, we both have share my aircraft checked.

There, you can't join an aircraft when you have "share my aircraft" checked
