Thunder in the Valley 2007

Postby mrjake2002 » Sat Jun 09, 2007 9:43 am

Hey all... just wondered if anyone would be interested in flying an airshow in the lake district rather than in an airport? Anyone who has been there probably knows what its like to have a tornado roar down the valley right next to you!  ;D It will probably be in two or three weeks time and on a saturday evening but i need to check the uk airshow dates to make sure it doesnt clash with any real airshows.

The aircraft id like to see are:

Some historic jets (eg, hunter, vampire etc. Id like to keep these UK orientated)
Some UK/EU modern military jets (eg, typhoon, tornado, hawk etc.)
American fighters (eg, f18, f22 etc.)
Something big (eg, c130, c17 etc.)
WW2 (eg, spitfire hurricane, corsair, fw190... simulated dogfight?)
One or two teams (bbmf, hmjg)

A chopper could be good too... but i would definatly like to keep this to military aircraft. Of course you dont have to fly anything from the list... its up to you what you fly. You can fly as many displays as you wish (im flying at least two - sea vixen and avro arrow).

Im not sure which lake it will be over yet but it will probably be Wast water, there is nice high sides and the lake is fairly small.

If there is much interest i will upload several flights which put you into a spectator point at the chosen lake and also one allowing you to start near the lake in a cessna, you can then switch planes to your display one.

Im open to suggestions etc. Post here if you're interested.

It's a nice idea in principle, but if anyone (and someone will) has a different mesh then they'll keep seeing display aircraft going through hills.

Sounds good! I think what I'll do is, rather than filming on the day, I'll ask anyone who wants to be in the video to record their flight using the recorder module. That way i can film it in my own time, it will be better quality and will generally be a far better film.

I like the idea!

If I can make it, I'll fly my spit in the BBMF, if the HMJG get sorted I'll be in the Vulcan and I'll fly a solo in a Tucano. :)

How will we decide on a display area? The closest airport to the hills is Walney Island, but that's still outside the hills.

I was going to upload a flight in the default cessna to spawn on an approach over the lake were using (which is wastwater btw). I'll produce a map with the display area and spectator area on and several flights which put you in the correct area with 'the dude'. Does anyone have any idea for a date?
