Is anyone interested in a glider race?  For instance, taking a hang glider from the top of a mountain in the Alps/Rockies/Pyrenees to an airfield at the bottom somewhere.  Those things fly slowly, how long should a race like that take to complete?  If I knew how to add slalom gates to a hillside it would be even better!

Or, how about a microlight race?  They're about the same speed as hang gliders but they can go back up again!  Dodging buildings and terrain in the middle of a city would be a lot of fun.

Let me know if anyone's interested, I've already got some ideas...

I think you've got the basis for a good idea grysnak. The question may be how many of us have experience flying microlights / gliders? I like the idea in principal and would probably give it a shot. Microlight racing...an oxymoron for sure..

My hangar is full of a selection of very nice Microlights and Flexwings, which I regularly tour round the countryside in...
For example; the fantastic rag-and-tube T-Bird II Microlight and the Cosmos Flexwing, amongst many others....
These economical and versatile little aircraft are a regular sight at my local airfield...and Microlight fly-ins are very popular amongst the community... ...!
I find that flying Gliders and Para-gliders are a bit more challenging, so I need more practice......!
So...
I don't know about a race, but a Multiplayer fly out seems a very good idea... ...!

What I'm really looking for, in terms of a glider race, is a town or village on the side of a hill.  No luck so far!  All the urban areas in FS2004 seem to be in flat spots or at the bottom of valleys.  Hang gliders have such crappy performance that just flying a full circle around a building can cost a lot of height!  Not much speed retention out of a dive, either.  I may need to learn how to add structures to existing terrain to make this one work, even if I just put markers on a hillside that have to be flown around on the way down.

Microlights are entirely different, I've already been buzzing around various cities and having a blast.  Anyone else flown the Mitchell Wing?

I have something in mind for a race but it requires a T&G on some water as well as a runway takeoff/landing.  Are there any amphibious microlights?  And of course it shouldn't be a frame rate hog if there's going to be a handful of them flying in close proximity.

I've got the "Mitchel Wing", and I love looking at my shoes...(know what I mean?)...LOL...!

I've downloaded just about every one of them I could find this past week!  But nothing amphibious yet, it could be there's no such thing?  Ah well, rather than T&G it might have to be "get the wheels wet" instead.  Still, most planes bounce off water reasonably well...

A wheel and float version, designed for FS 2002 but also works for FS 2004...
Just take great care when landing the float version on the water; reduce the speed to the absolute minimum, and raise the front tips on the floats just prior to contacting the water....touch-down slowly and with great care... ...!
It works....trust me... ...!

P.S. and don't forget, for one of the nicest "rag and tube" microlight/ultralights available, have a search on Avsim for "T-Bird II Ultralight"...a beautiful little aircraft similar to the "Thruster" Microlights seen in England... ...!

Quite nice, but I have to fly with the stick almost full forward just to keep it level!  Perhaps my CG needs adjusting.
