Good Router??

Greetings pilots.

Well, finally got broadband out here, through a radio tower only 1/4 mile from house. Great signal and all BUT.........this system comes with a router from the company that they have pass coded to keep us idiots from opening ports and wreaking havoc!

They say I can call them with the ports I need opened up for whatever games I may want to play, but I don't like this idea if I get in to on line gaming much...other than FS9 and CFS2.

I can buy my own router according to them and have free acces.

My question is, what is a good router? By this I mean fairly easy to understand when trying to open up ports for online gaming with the various games?

I know there are many out there, and maybe they are all the same............DIFFICULT for us newbs to broadband/router/firewall set up.

Any advice in this area would be appreciated.

I have gone over eno's posts several times, and probably will many more times until I get the hang of what I am doing.

Nice job by the way eno!

Thanks Pilots!!

I use a Draytek Vigor2600.. It's a reasonable mid-high price range router.  It does most of the setup itself, you just need to make sure that you get any settings from your ISP and check that the router has them the same.

Draytek is a Taiwanees company so I would expect them to export to the U.S. do a google for U.S. suppliers.

Thanks for the complement on the tutes. I'm glad to have helped.
