Don't worry about winning the race, just come along and have fun with everyone else. You'll see other people turning the wrong way, getting lost, and crashing into hills because they're not looking where they're going! As long as you're good enough to take off, fly to another airport, then land again you should be fine to join the race. Until then try joining in a multiplayer session to get used to flying with other people, and to make sure your connection and online settings are working okay.
Most important of all - have fun with it! ;D
(I'm not offering to do repaints for other people until I know what the planes will be, and how much work is required to paint numbers on them...)
