Bush Flying in Bolivia : The Death Road

Postby ShaneG_old » Mon Jan 04, 2010 9:12 am

I'm going to start flying around Bolivia , after some inspiration from Top Gear of course, and I will be kicking off the trip in La Paz and following Highway 3, better known as the Death road.

...looks interesting, Shane!... :)...!

...but I am going to try it at a more sociable time of the DAY!... ;D.... ;D...!

Off to La Paz (El Alto Intl SLLP) in my C150 Aerobat, wearing my Bolivian Bonnet... :-*...!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004...FS Navigator... 8-)...!

Highway 3. La Paz to Trinidad (Bolivia)...a vary scary road!... :o...!

P.S. ..don't be fooled by your Altimeter!...you are starting off at 15,000+ Feet ASL!
Had to revert to my Beech Baron 58....the Baby Cessna couldn't cope with 20,000+ Feet ASL...not enough Oxygen for my Carb!.... ;D...!
The scary Highway 3 bit ends at Rio Yacuma!

I just did the hop in my C150, you just have to get the mixture right, and keep a nice steady climb till you get to the peak.  ;)

The speed was never high, and neither was the RPMs, but she did OK.
Here's a few shots of the trip.

Well done Shane.... ;)...!

Lovely Pics!

I'm afraid I Chickened out, and swapped over to my Beech Baron after seriously running out of Oxygen and Airspeed in my '150.... ::)....!

I'm not used to such high altitudes in my Baby Cessna!...(Santa Barbara is quite close to Sea Level)..... ;D...!

Paul.... ;D...!

...spotted you on-line...;)...!

Flying that Death road is fun ofcourse, but why don't you just download a car and drive it?

I'm going to do just that...

Carlo ;)

I always find that the Road surface is rather obscure (blurry) when at ground level in the Sim, and its difficult to see the edges of the road, although I have "driven" the route taken by the Car (Denis Weaver) and Truck, in the Film "Duel" by Stephen Steilberg, from LA, Santa Clarita, en-route to Palmdale through the San Bernardino Mountains, (Soledad Canyon Road).

Good luck, Carlo..... Sim V Air Rescue will be on hand... ;)...!

Paul... ;D...!

I wonder how the Catalina would do in these circumstances!  :)
