For multiplayer, how are you supposed to know someone's IP address?
Both optimists and pessimists contribute to our society. The optimist invents the airplane and the pessimist the parachute

Most of us use a server to fly multiplayer. There are a lot of servers that can host FS multiplayer sessions. To find out which are online and what their IP addresses are use FS HostSpy. Click here. Download and install that program and enjoy.

If you want to host a session, just invite some people, give them your IP address and fly....

As I discovered the first time I tried to do multiplayer... you can't simply get them to connect to your system (You IP can be found by going to whatismyipaddress.com)

As Crash said you will need FSHost or another hosting program. This turns your computer into a flight simulator host. You set it up how you want via the options menu. When you 'start' the server on the left side there is a box (for me it is always hidden so I have to drag it to the right a little) and it will tell you the IP of your host. Give your friend the Host IP and they can connect to your server.

Be sure to read the sticky as it says which ports need to be forwarded to make for good gameplay. Try to get your friend and yourself to have the simulator FPS -LOCKED- at about 20 or 25FPS to help the connection go through better.
