My simpit site

Postby beaky » Sat Dec 29, 2007 4:24 am

Finally got around to publishing my site... it's crude, but effective. So far it's all about my simpit project, which is lurching along bit by bit.

That's very sad, but more parents kill their own children annually than this sort of attack happens; food for thought.

And it's very unusual for Rotties to attack little members of their own "pack", even if they're poorly trained... it's a herding and guard breed, not an attack breed like Dobermans or German Shepherds.
Many Rotties stand watch by the family nursery and they're known to be very gentle and patient with kids. My Peg seems to regard babies and toddlers as puppies- she shows very m,aternal behavior towards them and puts up with all sorts of abuse.

It's also possible that the dog did not really intend to harm the baby, but the panic reaction just made things worse.
I know it's asking a lot of anyone whose kid or sibling is in danger, but if you don't remain calm when dealing with a dog in any situation, you will make things worse before they get better.

I know a lot of people who constantly run into trouble with dogs, and it's usually because they immediately show fear or aggression when confronting a strange dog that seems agressive, which of course gets the dog more worked up.

Sadly they've had bad press for many years now. I remember when their were a series of incidents involving rotties resulting the death or serious injury of young children in the late 80s early 90s. Sadly it was brought home when completely unprovoked, coming out of our local vet (we were on the way in with our own dog) one jumped up at me, and was only inches away from my face by the time its owner pulled it away - quite scary for an 8 or 9 year old as I was then...

Well, sometimes I'm amazed too, then I remember I'm about a year behind the anticipated schedule... :D

I'll say this much, though: I often put off working on it because I'm not sure what to do next, but I am not bored with the project yet. Been doing a lot of thinking and doodling again recently, and some vexing design concepts have finally been ironed out (there's not enough %$#@&! room in there for everything!!).
In a nutshell, I think I'm done revising things.
As soon as I make some necessary changes in my room (I have to change the loft configuration so I can move the 'pit and workstation to a better location) and straighten up the shop some more (as in "throw a bunch of stuff away"), things will start moving along nicely again.

Nice simpit.. I read it when I was bored.. Have you gotten in all the controls yet or did I miss something.. I'd like to know how you made those rudder pedals.. Nice dog, too.

Oh no, far from it... the structure is still incomplete; that needs to come together first. I'm planning to fabricate my own quadrant and stick (at least the stick grip), so it could be a while... ;D

For more details on how I made the pedals, look at my series in the Homebuilders' forum here... I guess I should put some of those details up on the site, but frankly it's a peculiar design, although the basic idea is pretty clever.
