Hurricane force winds diminish as you go out from the eye. Jose is projected to turn northward and not impact US mainland. Irma right now is projected to slam into Key West with devastating force, then go north and landfall at about Ft Myers. The Florida west coasters did not expect this, there's been a huge number fleeing and clogging the roads as they try to head north. Most shelters here in Miami and area are full, many had to wait online for hours to get in. Streets everywhere are deserted except for a few stupids who think they're better than Mother Nature. Worst time in my area will be 12-3pm Sunday. Right now it's 5.40pm EST, still have power, and actually very little wind or rain yet, but that's just right here, other spots have gotten winds, fallen trees etc. My immediate area is not in a flood or storm surge zone, but Miami Beach and close coastal areas have been evacuation in anticipation of surge. That's really serious stuff. The path to the west towards Key West is sad for the keys, but will spare Miami a direct eye hit. I am prepped to the max, and just waiting for the power to cut. It's really nerve racking, but been there, done that, I'm keeping head-cool, hopefully will stay that way during worst hit. Andrew came and went in only 3 hours, this one will be a long event.

My personal take is always be prepared. I was, way before the gas lines built up. But I've learned stuff this time, and next year, will have certain other newly learned prep things way ahead of the game. One of the biggest problems with people's prep is that many just don't bother at least getting storm shutters or panels, and end up buying plywood, batteries, water, etc at the last minute. That clogs the stores and the roads, and could be avoided by common hurricane season sense.

Wish us all luck. It's going to be miserable, and the aftermath the same.

Yet more scary images of the remains of Florida as sea level rises, with or without the help of Hurricane Irma, etc...>>>

An example of the dangers of populating low-lying areas!

For me, the City of New York is a classic example of a modern city towering barely above sea level!

Just checked my personal location elevation above sea level = 236 feet... :D ....!

Try this....... ;) .....>>> https://www.maps.ie/coordinates.html

Having been an open-air Motorcyclist for the past 68 years I have become well used to the vagarities of various weather patterns, and I constantly scan the skies around me and take regular notes of my local weather forecasts.

Even in my Flight Simulators I always make a point of staying well away from cloud formations in all my general aviation aircraft.

Strong winds, electrical storms, and icy conditions occur in clouds, and they can be the death of both you and your aircraft!

Take my tip....stay well away from clouds!

...they have killed off even the most experienced of pilots!

Famous example...>>> http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... -wind.html

If the weather is "bad"...stay on the ground, have a coffe in the airfield canteen, and wait 'till it passes over....!

...trust me!

It always surprises me that my Flight Sim Chums think that it is fun to fly into/amongst clouds!.... ...!

We in Blightly are a nation of weather watchers and although we don't suffer the extremes that some areas of our world get, I can't help but to be in awe of Mother Nature. She's a very powerful girl when she lashes out and we seem helpless to do anything but look on. I don't wish to be political, but perhaps we should spend a little less on weapons and a little more on building up defences and strategies to help alleviate the suffering that follows this kind of event.

On a weather note....

I sometimes think it would be nice to enjoy the warmth of, San Francisco!.....

....but it does have a peculiar climate dotted around the Peninsular!!....>>>

http://www.sfgate.com/weather/article/S ... 187131.php

55 Degrees F. temperature variation throughout parts of the City!

They call it; "Microclimate".

My Microclimate in my back garden mostly involves cold and rain!

..and the latest news from Florida...>>> http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-41222053
