It's funny how I got here last night. I started out looking up particle accelerators. Then got into how television picture tubes work.

Long story short.. ended up here >> The Obsolete Technology Website

Fascinating, Dwayne!....!

I still have all my various versions of my Sinclair Spectrum (Timex in the USA), Commodore, Atari, Amstrad, and Amiga computers, all in full working order, together with all their hardware, software, manuals, etc...

....all ready for instant use!.... :D ...!

Lots of "Emulators" around for them now!
My favourite which I have: http://www.spectaculator.com/ ...works like a dream on a PC!

Paul....computer fun is in the form of 8-bits!...A fully signed-up member in 1980... ...!

Paul, interesting, about two years ago I looked into this big time..
http://mamedev.org/

Not only are the different emulators available, but there is also a very nifty "front end", known as Hyperspin.

http://hyperspin-fe.com/

The idea here is that you build a cabinet/console, then use Hyperspin to select the game you wish to play. Hyperspin then activates the corresponding emulator for that game.
(ie, one cabinet to play all games, Saito, Nintendo, Atari etc)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XVYoeuARAw

I had the whole lot up and running, but started running into problems when trying to get hold of the game ROMS for the more well known and popular games.
Turns out that the majority of games of choice, (roms), are copyrighted, and can therefore not be sold.
(Mortal Combat, Donkey Kong, Mario Brothers, Pac Man etc etc etc).

To get past this, those who do have roms available, offer them free of charge but with a "donation" towards the "site maintenance."
All a big con really. :x

Depending on the size of your donation, you are then allowed you to "download" selected games, 90% of which turn out to be either corrupt or missing DAT files etc. and don't work.
After making a number of "donations" (£10.00 a time), I very soon realized that getting hold of proper "working" roms is a "hit and miss" affair, costing a small fortune.
Sadly and disappointedly in the end I abandoned the whole project.

Thanks for the reminder, Jan!
I remember I still have a few MAME games stored on my old Hard Drives!

Regarding ROM's, the big problem is with the Amiga Computers. One has to own the complete computer for the Emulator to work!
Fortunately, I still have both my Amiga 500 and Amiga 1200 Computers, so I have a choice, either to use the Emulator, or the real thing!
A few more Emulators...there are lots of them!...>>> http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/computer/

Its fun playing old computer games on fast, modern PC's, with big colourful Monitors!
Sinclair Spectrum's "Jet Set Willy" will suddenly appear in big, glorious Technicolour, as you've never seen it before!.... ...!
...and "3D Deathchase" will keep you on the edge of your seat!

...and I still have fun with my old Atari 2600, (and Megadrive), with its games cartridges, plugged into my TV!

And remember, many of the old games can be played on the "Android" Tablets...>>> https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... eccy&hl=en
...lots of fun to be had in bed.....(when there's not much else to do!!).... ...!

Modern Computer games have lost a lot of the "fun" we had/have in the olden; "8-bit days".... ;) ...!

Paul....The Sinclair Spectrum is dead......Long live the Sinclair Spectrum!.... ...!
