Ok ya'll, I have a little question.
Since school's ending in a few months, I am getting ready to go home. Instead of spending all of my free time this summer on a computer, i decided I want to set up my spare room in my basement as a model/painting room.
Can anyone direct me to a website with good, high-quality airplane models that are roughly 1-2 feet in length? I want to get a pretty high-detailed model, one similar to what I used to do when I was younger (and more impatient). I would like to concentrate on commercial airplanes, mostly boeings and airbus'.
I bought a few magazines at Barnes & Noble and I found many models, however I am not sure if they are already assembled or not. I don't want to build a metal model (that could get too expensive) and I don't want a snap tite model (that isnt fun). I want to be able to paint my pieces, add decals, clue them together, etc. basically I want a realistic model airplane to display around the house, that isn't too small.
If anyone has any experience I would appreciate it greatly.
Now, for my other idea.
I used to buy little 1:400 scale metal airplanes. They made excellent toys for a kid absolutely in awe of aviation. I would pretend my household appliabces were terminals, and I would make runways out of paper and tape, and just take off and land for what seemed like hours at a time.
I had this idea after I visited my girlfriend's house upstate and saw her father's electric trains. he set up the trains, and then used plaster to make mountain ranges surrounding the area. It wasn't finished, but it still looked great (and fun!). I would like to make a model of the Kai Tak International area in Hong Kong, complete with airport, 1:400 scale planes, water, mountains, and buildings. I think it could be a fun, and time consuming project. I would love to know what I should buy to start this type of project up.
Again, if anyone has any experience with this type of modelling please point me in the right direction. I've had dreams of doing this type of detailed artwork for years and now that I feel I'm old enough to take on such tasks I'd like to get started.
Thanks for the help. and I'm sorry if I took up a thread here if this wasn't the place for this topic.
