With that systum I can run CFS2 with alot of trees and even make some real nice forest and still come out way ahead. If I used a 32 bit OS such as Vista home Premium or XP would I get the same frame rates or do I need to run a 64bit OS?

[color=#000000]Yo Bob;

The problem is that XP will limit the system and only allow you to use 3GB of RAM (4GB MAX. if you tweak it)

4+ GB of RAM works fine in Vista/Win7 32 & 64Bit - the only limit is the max. amount of RAM your motherboard will support.

I cannot give you a definitive answer in regard to framerate differences in 32bit vs. 64bit as I have not tested this.

However if you consider that a 32bit o/s is like having your data driving down a 32 lane highway ... and a 64 bit o/s has 64 lanes; then you'd have twice the data volume. Theoretically; I would speculate the 64bit o/s should provide better framerates over the 32bit o/s.

I have been using Win7 for about 8 months. Last Nov. I picked up an old eMachine PC (produced in 2006).

RE: Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 (CFS2) and Windows 7 incompatibility.

I got it working today on my Win7 Home Premium 32Bit rig!
Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @2.40 GHz processor
4GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 5500 1GB video ram card
2TB SATA HD

It appears that "tricking" CFS2 into thinking it is on a 64 bit rig does the trick.

1. Create a sub-directory structure (folders is a term used by people under 30) on your C: drive as:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 2

2. Install CFS2 from the original two CD set using:
Custom Install (complete)
Install to the sub-directory created in step 1.

3. Set the COMPATIBILITY MODE of the file CFS2.exe found in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 2
...by right-clicking it
...select PROPERTIES
...select COMPATIBILITY
.................set to Win XP SP2
...............check the DISABLE VISUAL THEMES radio box
.................check the RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR radio box
.....................single-left click CHANGE FOR ALL USERS
.....................single-left click APPLY
.....................single-left click OK

Run the game.

I also used Michael Priester's 64bit patch to get SFS2 to run on Win8.1 64bit.
