Just a reminder that there are 156 pages (yes, one hundred and fifty-six pages) of CFS2 aircraft downloads here at SimV.

I found it on Amazon. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Combat-Aces-Expansion-Flight-Simulator/dp/B00005N994

You can get some of the aircraft here. http://www.easyfly.co.nz/Freeware/

I believe all the aircraft in the Combat Aces addon are older models created with AF99.

Can you please be more specific. When you say they don't work do you mean they're not listed on the Free Flight selection menu or some other problem?

The Combat Aces aircraft are all very basic AF99 models with 8-bit textures. They should work on even low-end systems. I can't think why they would cause problems in CFS2.

PS. Which display resolution are you using from CFS2 Advanced Settings?

same issue as before Hagar
i belive im running it at 1024x768 its the same setup i have for my other CFS2 with my Korean war planes.

its a computer issue. it has to be cuz my little sony vaio would run all of the planes out there. so i'm at a loss. without getting microsoft involved i think i'm out of luck on this computer.

alright you ready for this one.

i flew the aerocrates missions last night.

two for the planes that i couldn't fly becuz of the CTD in freeflight worked in the mission. the game ran like normal. so whats the issue with the viewer in the freeflight selection screen. i can see them as AIs in game but not in freeflight. i'm going to add one to my other copy of CFS2 and see if it works in that. maybe i'm getting a bad install. very very strange.

PL. This is most frustrating. I've asked you before about this. It would help a lot if you can be more specific. Which aircraft are you talking about? I thought you said the Aerocrates aircraft work for you. ::)

Is it possible they have special AI versions which are used in the missions? If the problem aircraft are listed on the Free Flight selection menu I think it's unlikely that you have a bad install.

its the third party aircraft not the aerocrates.
the roland cII and the RE8.

oh same results in my other copy. so the install are possibly the same.

how does the player aircraft get viewed prior to flying them. is it a dll that does it.

i wonder if it happens in mission builder. i havent tried that yet.

well i can use them in the campaigns and missions atleast. aslong as i dont have to view them before i fly. so thats a positive. i'll check mission builder. i expect the same results but who knows.

ok mission builder works fine. its only in the player aircraft selection that it crashes. i have tried running in Win2000 and Win98 mode at it does the same CTD. its funny that these older models are doing this.

do any of the programs used to make these need any of the visual basic or C++ runtimes. just a thought.

so to end this i'm going to say its my stupid ATI intergrated graphics card.

got any suggestions for a good newer one. i want a nividia.

I think you're jumping to the wrong conclusions. I downloaded the 3rd party aircraft from the Aerocrate site to check them out. These aircraft are intended as AI Only. If you select them as Player aircraft in the missions you would probably have the same CTD as in Free Flight.

how does the player aircraft get viewed prior to flying them. is it a dll that does it.

I have no knowledge of the inner workings of CFS2. It's not the preview window that's causing your problem but something to do with the aircraft. If you've tried aliasing the panel & sound to aircraft that work OK there's only the MDL & textures left. I strongly suspect the MDL file as even the most basic onboard graphics card should be able to cope with 8-bit textures.

PS. I tried the Bristol Scout C from the Aerocrate package in Free Flight. It's a nice model & flies fine but soon after taking off I experienced the first CTD I've had in CFS2 for a very long time. Very odd indeed.
