A Word On Conversions

While conversions from other sims like FS9/FSX provide us with some very, very nice aircraft for CFS2, even the best of them functioning at 100% do tend to have two drawbacks:

- While they are great player aircraft, they are not multi-LOD and can be framehogs.

- Almost all of them refuse to function in the AI/wingman role.

So don't expect too much from these 'ported' aircraft.  They are what they are, but provide us with some nice options without the investment of hundreds of hours of design time.

Just a thought... ;)

A little more info....

Some conversions are perfect with all animations working properly.   Some have animations that do not convert...frequently one of these is the left flap animation for some unknown reason.

Some will function in QC and some will not.

In short, conversions can be an interesting crapshoot.  :P

A Word On Conversions - FS9 Bug

Recently it was discovered that some converted MDL files from many different sources have a fragment of FS9 code remaining.   This fragment is thought to be the root of some converted aircraft not showing in Freeflight, freezing CFS2 or causing a CTD in QC.  :-?

I have never experienced any of these problems, but I have noted that several of my converted MDL files do contain the code fragment in question.

I have posted a new MDL file for my Beaufort with that code removed.  And my 109F-4 and 109F Tropical are being posted with corrected MDLs. ;)

I am also putting together a package of corrected MDL files for all of my remaining converted aircraft.  I will post that soon.   If you are not having any problems with a converted aircraft, there really is on need to install the new files...but it won't hurt to do so.  8-)

"Remaining code fragmentation"....

Wasn't this the basic storyline for the film ' I Robot '?

Oh Lordy...does that mean that we are gonna be invaded by FS9 robot warriors. Should we head for da hills or blow up every computer with FS9 on it.

The DARK SIDE is heading your way!

regardless Collin ;D
