The fabled Martin-Baker MB-5 prototype, perhaps the most advanced prop fighter ever built, could have flown over Europe during the last years of the war.

I remember flying an MB-5 in FS9 and loving it, up there with my Spit collection 8-)

Yep, this is the same aircraft from FS9/FSX.   I've just converted all the files and animations to CFS2 format.  ::)

Earlier today I uploaded her package.  She comes with a great 2D panel and a photo-realistic VC.

I've also just now uploaded a simple upgrade pack that will update the VC to a DVC with functioning gauges.  ;)

It should all be available tomorrow.....

...I'm:

- gathering a number of alternate skins for the MB-5
- as well as working-up some payloads
- and creating a set of functioning droptanks

Lots of work to do yet.  :P

I've uploaded a pack of 14 alternate skins for the MB.5 that should be up at the same time as the aircraft download and the DVC upgrade.  These are by AlphaSim and Nick Bradin, and were converted to CFS2 by Rick Ruscoe.

Now, I'll have to slow down to do the droptanks from scratch, and work on payloads.

Flying this airplane can best be described as being in a Mustang on steroids...what a ride!   She's subject to compressibility issues with the controls if your speed gets too high in a dive.  :-/

She's a pure fighter plane, so I'm not going to dis her by hanging ordinance all over her little wings....just the wingtanks to supplement her small fuel supply.  ::)

Her droptanks are finished, tested and packed.   I'll get them uploaded today.  ;)

Does it have folding wings and a tail hook?
Need one for the 'Malta' Class.

This aircraft was available in 43 but Churchill thought that the Spitfire was already so well known and loved by the public that further manufacturing of a new aircraft was not on, so the world lost out with a fabulous aircraft to another Churchillian mistake.

I did speak to Martin Baker's grandson several years ago, he said while there were no specific plans drawn up for a naval conversion, the wingfold would have been just outboard of the wheel-arch, with a tail wheel like a Corsairs. Contact points for rockets would have been available, and a catapult connection somewhere under the cockpit area.
The contra-rotating also acted as an airbrake by closing down the throttle.

regards  Collin ;)
