The oldest class of US subs to serve in a major combat role in the Pacific were the Tambor boats.

Actually there was still an older class serving in the Pacific:

The S-Class boats served in the early days in the Phillipines from Manila, later in the Dutch East Indies, and then in the Solomons and the Aleutians.

Not very successful though  :(.

All those submarine classes look great, TR. Keep up the nice work [smiley=thumbsup.gif]!

Very true.   To put that in perspective, the 17 S boats that served in WWII are credited with a total of 42 sinkings (including sampans and junks) equaling about 130,000 tons.  In comparison, the SS-193, USS Tautog, a member of the Tambor class, alone is credited with 26 sinkings totaling 72,000 tons.  And the single ship record, if I remember correctly, is held by the USS Spearfish, SS-190, at 23 sinkings totaling 133,000 tons.

small stuff.....

I got over 6,000,000 tons in a campaign of Silent Hunter 1

;D
