CFS2

Postby Tripple 7 » Mon Nov 05, 2007 5:18 pm

Hello,

I have been playing with Jet aircraft and CFS2.  The game works well and the aircraft fly well, however at high speed in a turn, climb or dive the aircraft explodes.  Does anyone have any idea why and if there is a fix for this ?  Thanks and sorry if this is a double post I didnt see it in the search.

Hi. The FAQ posted on the Fox Four website might be helpful. http://www.simviation.com/lair/cfs2kwfaq.htm

Basically, change the flight model realism to Easy.

....see the Fox Four FAQ page:

CFS2 DIFFICULTY & REALISM SETTINGS

IMPORTANT CAUTION: In Korea, you have entered the very different world of jet combat, where speed and G-forces become critical factors and structural failure a real concern. It is important to understand that CFS2 was created for prop aircraft and, simply stated, the sim's performance parameters are not broad enough to cope reliably with all aspects of jet performance. The primary drawback is known as "Exploding Jets", which is catastrophic structural failure that causes your aircraft to self-destruct in mid-air.

THIS CAN BE EASILY AVOIDED BY MAKING THE FOLLOWING CHANGE IN YOUR CFS2.CFG FILE:

Open the CFS2.CFG file (Main CFS2 directory) in Notepad.
Scroll down to the [REALISM] section & change the StressDamage=True entry to StressDamage=False
Exit Notepad saving changes. That's it. No more Exploding Jets.

THIS SETTING CAN BE LEFT IN PLACE PERMANENTLY OR CHANGED BACK AT ANY TIME MANUALLY.
IT CANNOT BE CHANGED FROM ANY OF THE IN-PROGRAM MENUS.

We suggest that the campaign, the missions and the aircraft should be flown on EASY Campaign/Mission Difficulty settings, and EASY Flight Model setting for your first run-through. This will give you some time to get accustomed to flying jets. Then move on to the more challenging settings. All other "Realism" settings may be used with any of the available menu selections from the beginning.

UPDATE - Before using Medium or Hard flight model settings please install the patch here

What you are running into is airframe failure from stress......it is much greater at jet speeds, and CFS2's stress failure limits are set for props. ;)
