question on sound files

Does anyone know of or have done a tutorial on sound files? Especially the sound.cfg file.
A few issues I'd like to fix in the game...
1) I've downloaded several 'real' sound files for a few a/c, and while they sound great for the engine, the sound of the flaps, gear etc are gone.
2) I have several flying boats, some with wakes, some not. 2 of them have internal sound for the engines, but no external engine sounds (although the weapon sounds work). I can't see anything wrong in the .cfg file, and I've run the sound bites in media player and they work.
3) I have 2 other flying boats (Emily and Mavis) that have extensive sound bites for water contact etc, yet the sound.cfg file just says 'alias to P-38'... hence no water sounds.
I'm sure these would all be very simple to fix in the .cfg file if I only knew what I was looking at...

PS; the 2 a/c with engines that are silent outside are 2 variants of the Bv138. They are a conversion from FS9 I think. To get them to show up in CFS2 I had to edit the aircraft.cfg file from
