Greetings,
I did a similar one in 8 minutes, wasnt too hard to make.

It is done by following a plane while it is being shot at.  You pause it when hit, take a screenshot, save it then unpause and repeat the process.  You may have to run the same scenario several times, till you have around 30 shots.  Then you cut and paste each shot, greyscaling it, brightening it, then resize it to 100x100.
Then you run animation shop and add all the frames together, each shot around .2 of a second between frames.

You will be surprised how it turns out!

Thanks

Thanks for the Tip Diesteffel. How do you get the screen shoots.

You know their was a Java gun camera available a while back that was suppose to work well with CFS2. I just was not able to figure it out.

Bear how do you install this program. Do you install it directly in to the CFS2 root folder or some where else.

How do you activate it. Does it work automaticaly by pressing F9 every time you press the trigger.

How many films can you make and how can transfer them from one PC to another.

What method do you use. CD, DVD or floppy disc.

Onces you start to recording how can one play it back.

Your help is well appreciated. This is the classiest thing that you have ever done as far as I"m concern. This will close the gap between us and our sister Sim Pacific Fighter/ FB.

Another question? Can we use this program with CFS1and CFS3. I would like to use it with this other Sims as well.

I have wanted to do this for a long time. But I do not have expertise that other member have. We can always learn from each other. Beside other members that may read this post may learn as well.

This will enhance our enjoyment of this Hooby.

Thank you

There is a free version: download it & read the instructions. It loads onto what ever drive you choose in its own folder (FRAPS).

I choose a key not generally used by the specific game to trigger & stop it.  I have not bothered to link it to the gun trigger.

You can make as many films as you have drive space to hold them & they transfer like any other file.

You just click on the file in the FRAPS folder (default) to play it back & it can be used with most any game.

To compress the files & drop the sound out to put the films on sites like this I use VirtualDub to edit...its also freeware.

Our team used them a lot to pass visual test info back & forth like this CFS2 Corsair being flown in FS.

Or this B-17 in CFS3

Interesting comment after doing flight sim freeware for 18 or so years. :o

Thank you Bear for all your help. I already figure it out this mornning before work. I hope you do not mind I use your thread on a post I want to make explaining this program to the rest of the community.

A comment on what I wrote before calling your thread the classsiest thing that you ever made. I know I was wrong and you are wrong. You probably have done many more classy things for a lot longer than eighteen years.

You are just a little rough on the edges but deep down you are swell of a guy. Any body who spen so much on a noble hooby like this is more than likely is a good person.

Let me ask you one more question? How can you make the films a little longer than 30 secounds.

PS You may not but I Believe this!

Another gun cam solution is the Java Guncam: http://www.errthum.com/troy/warbirds/guncam/. Look at the examples to see the kinds of effects you can create.

You can get great results with this, but it can cause lag (it stores captures in your RAM until they are written to files, or your RAM tops out - depends on how you set it up).

A particular (old and no longer supported) version of the JRE is required to run the program - don't know if it runs on more recent versions.

You also need a program such as JPGVideo (http://www.snapfiles.com/get/jpgvideo.html) to convert the jpg screen grabs into AVI files to create your gun cam footage

Thank you for all your input. As for Java Gun films. I have had it or a long time but have not been able to install it.

Where can I find that older version that maybe I can learn how to install it.

I Love those black and white gun camera shots.

As for FRAPS how do you upload a video clip to this forum? I would like to share some of my film clips.

How can one optimize FRAPS to get maximum film rate?

Thank you both

To use Java Guncam, you need a now no longer supported version of the Java RUn-time environment (I don't think it will run on more recent versions).

The appropriate version can be found here: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/download.html

Using this shouldn't affect any other aspect of using CFS2, although it might impact on other aspects of your computer/software.

I didn't notice any detrimental effects when I rolled back to version 1.3, but you can always download and reinstall the most recent version if you have problems anway.

Since I just came from the CFS1 forum on a similar matter:
Grab/Clip/Save takes still pictures of whatever is on your screen (you need a free finger to capture a sequence of pictures). The pictures will be saved in a file on the HD and can be edited before using them in an animation program. I've made .avi variations with the same pictures this way. 4th down:
