more dp fun

I found a certain plane here that i wanted  ;D but the dp is a lil goofy, there is to guns, one on each wing(not including tail gun). when i hit the trigger the guns fire ::) and the tracers stream out from each gun. BUT as i hold the trigger i notice that some tracers are leaving the end of my nose! :o and there isnt a gun there.

After tooling around the dp i found nothing significantly wrong, there are only two guns(not including tail gun), a rocket, and a bomb i cant figure out why there are tracers leaving the barrel of the guns and my nose

here is the gunstation

; Starboard Guns
gunstation.0=1,31,2,0.1,900,2,0.05,500,5,40,1d1*32,0.53,0.15,3.1,0.119651268759032,0,0,0,0,0,0,7.05

any help? ???

It's a long time since I messed around with DP files. My best suggestion is to get DPED from CFS2 Utilities & tweak it with that.

did that too  :'( i even deleted both guns and added them in one gunstation i.e.
[gunstation.0]=1,31,2,0.1,900,2,0.05,500,5,.......etc

[guns.0]
gun.0=84375937473.... etc
gun.1=34589384534.... etc

and that didnt work :'(

I can only assume there's a ghost gun position giving you the tracer effects. If I remember correctly the position & firing angle of individual guns can be set up separate from the gunstation in DPED. The gunstation entry defines the characteristics of all guns using it.

tried that too.... with no avail.... I thought it may be because the rounds are moving to slow (there for unstable)but i reloaded the original dp and the tracers are really moving fast but some still come out of the nose. i have noticed this on other aircraft with rounds flying randomly out of the face of the aircraft ( nose, canopy, prop disk, wing roots)

Did you remember the golden rule of DP editing? Delete the CDP file after editing the DP.

If you tell me the name of this mystery aircraft & give me a link to the page it's posted on I can download it & check it out myself. I can't promise to do any better than you.

Greetings,
I found it to be just a bit of a quirk in CFS2.  Its not the way they appear to come out, its so long as they hit what you are aiming for!

Hagar,  if I was a Jerry pilot in a 109 and was on the tail of this plane I would say that was a Sturmovik IL2.  The details regarding the guns indicate that the trigger key 1 was allocated to a SHvak 23mm wing guns with a SHvak 12.5mm tail gun.
The positioning of guns.0 and guns.1 indicate that the author did not place the guns symetrically.  The first number indicates the number of bullets.  The second indicates the lateral position of the guns, the third is the vertical position and the fourth is the horizontal.  Please note that only the vertical numbers are identical.

The apparent nose gun is the rear gun, when firing sometimes due to a fault in CFS2 appears to be shooting forward.

Hagar, as to the CDP file, it is written everytime the plane is launched.  It always overwrties the previous version.  Dunno why.

Thanks

DieStaffel

Answer to Hagar: yes i did delete the wonderful little .cdp and the aircraft is an IL-2 found on page four for CFS2.

Answer to DieStaffel: Yes i know the usual gun trigger fires the tail gun and no it's not that what i see. Yes the guns are in different spots but that is differences in the visual model. and the .cdp is the Copy DP, (at least thats what i am guessing. And you need to delete it every time you edit the .dp or when you fly that aircraft again the .cdp overights the .dp  ;)

I'm no authority on DP editing but every tute I've read on the subject says to delete the CDP each time you edit a DP. This would seem to indicate that it's not overwritten but a new one is created from the data in the edited DP file.

Hi All,

I think that the tracers emanate from the 0,0,0 point of the AC. At least they do on all the stockers. You can't really tell unless you are outside the AC. Try the B24 it is very noticeable with the waist guns.

Hope this helps,

B24Guy

It's nothing to do with the MDL file. This simply defines the visual model. I checked out the IL-2 DP file in DPED myself & realise just how little I know on the subject. I suspect that B24Guy is correct but this would be the original DP file.

I have no idea, i just know that the weapons that came with it arent the worlds greatest, you may want to change them to something you like or delete them all togther. And I may have screwed thing up even though, there are two different IL-2 M3's

Here is the info to make the rear gunner fire at you in Quick Combat or missions:

; Tail Gun
gunstation.2=0,57,1,0.08,839,2,0.01,600,0,40,1d1*14,0,1,-2.55,0,0,180,-60,60,80,0,0.6

The -60 and 60 were transposed wrongly. I have also changed the weight of the gun from 1.8 to 0.6. The gunners arms must have been to tired to fire ;)

Thanks for that Editor but the rogue tracer flashes seem to come from the forward firing guns that are assigned to the Cannon trigger. Maybe you can suggest the reason for it.
