Re-installing CFS2

Postby Lawin » Sat May 14, 2005 6:28 am

Hello everybody.  I am new here.  A question from a noob.  I have installed some terrains, campaigns, missions and some effects and it seems that it affected my install.  I am planning of re-installing it again but I would like to retain my pilot info like medals received, how many kills, etc.  Which directory should I copy or backup?

TIA

Hi Lawin. The best method might be to back up the complete Combat Flight Simulator 2 directory by renaming the folder to any any other name. Then insert the CD & install in the usual way. Transfer anyhing you wish from the backed up original to the new install before deleting what's left of the backup copy.

Exactly the same method can be used for duplicate installs of CFS2 only in this case you don't delete anything.

Hey Hagar, thanks a lot for the turn around.  I will do as suggested. :)

Lawin another word of advise for you is not to make too many installations at the same times. Make only a few at the same time and only of the same type. Another words if you are installing sceneries concentrate on them and test them before you strat to install planes.

That some times confuses the program and you will get a error message when trying to play.

Now that you started a new install, go slow and copy and paste only one folder at a time since you do not know wich one gave you the error message.

Every time you add a new folder through the copy and paste procedure. Strat the game and see if install in that folder works properly.

That way you will know wich folder was the cause of the error.

I hope I was helpful

Hi James, thanks a lot for that info.  Actually, that's what I have done already.  I have re-installed CFS2 and fly, copy Pilot folder, then fly.  So far that's what I have done.  And it seems to be working perfect.  I will be copying the Effects and Textures later.

Thanks to all your replies.
