Lots Of Empty Folders

I was wondering about this and I wanted to know if everyone elses was the same way. I installed my CFS2 just a few days ago, I've only added two a/c. But I have about 50 EMPTY folders in there. I have CFS1 Folders (P51D, B17g, etc.) and I've got folders for all different kinds of planes from the Pacific. (P47N_Thunderbolt, SB2C4 Helldiver, eyc.) and a bunch of planes with PF on the front. (PF_A6M2_Zero, etc.) Could anyone tell me what these are, why they're there, and can I delete them.

Tiger63 do not dispair I had the same problem years ago. The only way I was able ti fix was by uninstalling CFS2 . Go back to CFS2 Folder and delete everything in it after unstall it. Reintall and that should help you fix it . Maybe you need to defragment you PC. This is one of best Combat Flight Simulator in the Market. Evendow its over four years old its still a great simulator. Thanks to Microsoft policy of allowing the community to work on improvements to it. Later I will write a post for you on Ideas on how to improve your enjoyment of this Simulator. Good Night

Tiger. I don't recognise the PF_ prefix you mention. Those folders are nothing to do with the original CFS2 install so could possibly be part of a 3rd party campaign that wasn't fully installed. I can't think how 50 empty folders got there unless you put them there yourself.  I suspect that if they're completely empty you could safely delete them.

PS. Be careful not to install too many aircraft to CFS2. Unlike CFS1 it has a limit which can cause all sorts of problems. Read my CFS2 FAQ page for future reference. http://www.simviation.com/lair/cfs2faq.htm

Hi Hagar,
just been back to check BOTH my CFS2 instals , & the empty aircraft files with the PF_ prefix are  there ??? along with the empty standard files, is it something to do with fleshing out the aircraft folder ? I've asked this before as to wether it would be safe to move these folders to a 'Hangar' file, consensus was it would be unsafe.
Curiously, in the airbases DATS file, i keep getting' out of memory' warnings trying to insert more of steve Mclellands airbases, i've hit 137 in strip Numbers & 8370 in id code numbers, what i'm doing now is changing pacific airbases to euro ones thru' co-ordinates etc seems to be working (up to now)

I haven't read the whole, so excuse me if I repeat what someone else has said, but I have these folders too.  Just delete them, it does no harm. :)

Hi Happ. I find it very strange that Tiger, James & now you say you have these empty folders. I've had numerous duplicate installs of CFS2 on 4 different machines (I had 4 separate installs of CFS2 on one) since it was released & don't remember seeing even one folder with the PF_ prefix or any other empty folders for that matter. I can only assume it has something to do with WinXP. ::) If these folders are empty I can't see any harm in deleting them.

Just noticed you had written this.

It's not a serious, just kinda annoying i havent installed a single campaign, so that isn't it. Just got my hopes when I saw all those a/c folders.  :o Oh well.

PS: Performance update - I tweaked the graphics settings, and while the terrain is pretty bad, my planes look nice and I'm getting good framerates. I'm also suprised to find that my system handles multiple CFS2 a/c better than on CFS. (Example: On CFS1, more than 20 a/c would drop the rates through basement. On CFS2, my CPU doesn't even slow down.)

Thanks all,
Will

Hmm.
I'm running Win98se & i've got 'em Hagar ::)
Not worth worrying about , does'nt seem to be affecting anything.
Wonder if it was a substandard production batch of CD's? i got mine from PC world for a knockdown price a couple of years ago (

Ah well. Another amazingly brilliant theory bites the dust. ::) You can't win 'em all. Back to the drawing board. ???
As you say, it won't do any harm.

I was thinking the same thing because I bought mine only last week so it most likely wasn't it in the first produced. Mine doesn't have a printed manual either.  :-/ Oh well
