Hey guys, how hard is it to set up a European theatre CFS2? i know you can run 2 versions of cfs2 by renaming one of them, is there enough stuff out there to make it worthwhile? :-/

I mostly fly in Europe with aircraft from that theater. CFS2 has full world scenery included, all you need to add are locations to fly from and there are loads of scenery and mission addons for Europe available. I have two installs with the second set up for the Korean War.

Yes it works fine.  You have to make sure that you select the correct path for each install tho'.

You can have as many "duplicate" installs as you wish. I once had 2 installs of CFS1 & 4 of CFS2, all on the same HD. All ran perfectly without a CD in the drive. There are various ways of doing it. I always use the same method.
Rename the CFS2 main directory folder to any other name, then insert the CD & install to the default location using the Typical option. For another install simply rename the previous directory & follow the same procedure, ad infinitum. The latest install will be the "master" to use online & with the MB.

To run them I create shortcuts to each CFS2.exe, rename them (CFS2 Europe, CFS2 Korea etc.) & paste them to the desktop. These shortcuts can be assigned different icons to make them easily recognisable.

You can however "point" the mission builder at any of your Installs.  I have added all of my additional AC and Scenery to "Normal CFS 2" leaving "CFS 2" in a virginal state.  I right clicked on the mission builder icon, selected the properties and added "Normal" where appropriate.  I now have access to all of the addon aircraft without having to duplicate them accross several installs.

success so far, got the new cfs2 in, finding Euro aircraft, arn't the 1% planes good! finding scenery, steve mcClellands stuff looks good, missions & campaigns next, trouble is they've all got their own favourite planes in !& you need to load their planes to run the mission builder to change plane type & its filling up the plane folder, can i put american jap planes in a 'hangar' folder, as long as they're not aliased to any of them?

You can not put the stock aircraft in a hanger sadly. If you do, the game crashes!
You need a QC editor to add new planes to you quick combat list. I can't remember where I got mine now it's been so long but I think it was here at Sim V in the CFS2 utility section. The one I use is the Jonesoft one but I'll bet there is a newer one out by now.
Oh yes, if you enjoyed the AvHistory Spit XIV, you should check out all the other fantastic Paul Rebuffat Spits, they are the best you will find anywhere ;D

Like Tempest, I can recommend Quick Combat Editor V 2.2.0 by Jaesen Jones. http://www.simviation.com/cfs2utilities1.htm
This is the latest version. I don't think it will be updated.

Don't be tempted to remove any default aircraft. There might possibly be a way of doing this safely but I wouldn't recommend it.
