Mission Builder CFS2 - Submarines

Postby triebs2 » Sun Jan 04, 2004 1:24 am

I am new to CFS2 (I also bought CFS3 but it only runs on my computer at the lowest settings - lame), and I really enjoy the add ons and mission builder.

I thought it would be more realistic to design missions where the submarine targeted submerged at a specified time, maybe 2 minutes after the player aircraft came within one mile of it, or something.  Realistically, an aircraft had only one shot at a sub before it submerged and ran.

I searched but cannot find anyone who has tried this.  Any suggestions on how to program this, or something similar?

It isn't the se: Mission Builder CFS2 - Submarines

Unfortunately there isn't a way to "unspawn" a submarine to simulate the sub diving.  What I do when writing missions such as you describe is to give the player a limited time period in which to sink the sub.

For example, you can spawn the sub then allow the player 5 minutes to find and sink the sub.  After 5 minutes the mission automatically ends.  It isn't the same as having the sub submerge, but it does force the player to act quickly and gives him that one chance you describe before the mission ends.

You can write one debrief for a successful mission where the sub is sunk, one for a failed mission where the sub is not sunk or damaged, and a third for a partially successful mission where the sub is damaged but not sunk.

You can also make sinking the sub a goal and use it to advance the player in a campaign if you want.

Hi

I tried to take the stock sub and make it dive by making it an aircraft and giving it an airfile form the PT boat mod that is on this site.  I managed to get the decks awash but as soon as the 0,0 point on the model goes under water "boom".  Someone would have to build a model with the 0,0 point at the top of the scope then at least I think it could be dived at least to perscope depth.
You might be able to paint the top few feet of the perscope transparent and make it all go under.
