Hi Jai. It's a bigger file than I expected. I'll keep my promise to check it out for you but this might take a while.

Meanwhile, open the DP file in Notepad & check the allegiance= & entered_service= entries under [MISC_DATA]. If the allegiance= entry is any higher than 4 it's a nationality other than the default British, German, US or Japanese. As this is a Russian aircraft this is quite possible. You might need to install the updated Country.cfg for it to show up in missions & campaigns. http://www.microsoft.com/games/combatfs2/articles_SDK_countryfile.asp

The entered_service= date must be earlier than the date of the first mission in a campaign. Change it if necessary.
This should not affect QC providing you added the aircraft to the QC database. Use the latest QC Editor V 2.2.0 by Jaesen Jones. http://www.simviation.com/cfs2utilities1.htm
I have found that some Gmax aircraft don't work in QC.

OK Jai. As promised I checked out that I-16. It's fine in Free Flight but when I tried it in QC - CFS2 immediately crashed to desktop. Unfortunately, this is one of the aircraft I mentioned that is not suitable for use in AI. That means it's no use for QC, missions & campaigns.

I can't be certain but suspect it's a Gmax design originally intended for FS2002. It's possible to manually edit the MDL so these aircraft work in CFS2 but this is not always 100% successful - as in this case.

PS. Sorry. I can fix most problems but not this one.

Jai

Actually the fix is quite simple but not obvious. The cause of the CTD is because the  "title=" line in the aircraft.cfg file is to long. First uninstall the AC with QC editor, then shorten the name in the aircraft.cfg file to something much shorter, here's a sample.

Original:
title=I-16 Ishak Tip 5 "Lieutenant Liu Chi-Sheng, 21st PS, CAF, Wuhan area, China, 31st May 1938"

My edit:
title=I-16 Ishak Tip 5 "China, 1938"

Now re-install and it should work fine in both QC & missions.

All of Ivan Hsu's 1-16's suffer from the same problem so simply shorten the names & they will work just fine. Also make shure you get the version 2 update for the Tip 5 as its a FSDS2 model (Much better frame-rates & animation). I dont know if its on the Simviation.com site or not, but it is on Flightsim.com.

Hope this helps, it has worked for me.

Hello,  the first, thank to both for your help.
This was the reason Boatz, the long title line in aircraft.cfg. i just download the version 2.0 and works better, thank you very much for the information.

Well done guys. Thanks Boatz for your help. ;)

Believe it or not this had occurred to me but I didn't actually try it. This is not like me at all. Sorry Jai. ::)

PS. To tell the truth I became a little discouraged after cold booting my PC for the umpteenth time.
