AI Aircraft

Postby JonVic » Mon Aug 25, 2003 6:59 am

I am wondering is it possible to download aircraft for use as AI planes. I would like to add planes so i can use them for AI as i would really like to fly against me109's in a spitfire ans create many other scenarios with different planes. If this is not possible can you change player aircraft into AI ones and how? Obviously i would just rather download AI planes if possible. Thanks.

JonVic. All installed aircraft can be used for AI opponents. For Quick Combat use CFS Quick Combat Editor v 2.20 by Jaesen Jones to add them to the QC database. http://www.simviation.com/cfs2utilities1.htm
If you wish to convert some 3rd party aircraft into AI Only drones, download AirEd from the SimV Aircraft Design section. Use it to open their AIR files & change the Aircraft Type from 0 to 2. This will remove them from the Free Flight menu. To make them into smaller files you can delete the contents of the Panel & Sound folders as AI drones do not need them. Leave the folders themselves even if they're empty.

Thanks very much for getting back to me. I have one question though. You say that in quick combat i can add any of my 3rd party aircraft into the AI format using the editor will i still have them as flyable too i the menu? You talk about AI drones what is the difference between drones and AI flyable planes? You said that i could change the files to read 2 instead of 0 but this would remove them from my system. How about if i had a copy of the file and then made a duplicate so i did not lose my original aircraft in the menu? i could then have a file reading 0 and one readig 2 which would mean i had the plane in the AI format and the playable format. I hope you understand this:) Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

JonVic. Aircraft added to the QC database will still be flyable & selectable from the menu. Aircraft used specifically as opponents in missions are often configured as unflyable AI Only drones to reduce the file sizes. They do not need to be as accurate or have all the features of the flyable aircraft. Although they're not listed on the Free Flight menu AI Only drones will function as AI aircraft in QC & missions. Check out my own special unflyable AI drones here. http://www.simviation.com/lair/cfs2korea3.htm

The only flyable aircraft in this shot is the F-86 Sabre.

Thanks for the kind words. ;)
No you haven't done anything wrong. Any or all of our AI Only drones can be added to the QC database with the QC Editor I mentioned. We can't do this for you.

I see okay i will do that. While you are in this forum i would just like to ask. I sent an email about this today to one of the guys who did this cfs2 add-on it may even have been you but i cant remember the name, about an issue i was having with the sound. When in combat and flying the sabre i will be dogfighting with the migs and encounter sounds of prop aircraft over the jet noise. It is very difficult to work out where the noises are coming from due to the fact that the player aircraft is making a jet noise and the ai planes seem to make a jet noise much of the time. However i feel it may be the ai planes that are making the prop noise. Is this the case for all the add-ons on peoples machines or have i done something wrong, its my only niggle with the add-on. Hope you can help.

The prop sounds are most likely the AI aircraft. We used a variety of jets (MiG 15) & props (La 11. Tu 2 & Yak 9) as enemy opponents in most missions. They should all make their appropriate engine sounds. You might like to try tweaking the "Sound volume" options from CFS2 settings.

okay i will try that and hopefully that will make a difference. If i dont manage it i will post again and try to be more specific with the problem you may know what is wrong if i can put my finger on exactly what it is making the prop noise cause i have only flown against mig 15's so far so they should not make the prop noise. If not oh well it isnt the end of the world the add on is still great thanks for all your help it is very much appreciated.
