Is this the one you mean? http://flightsim.periskop.cz/letadla.php?lan=1&sor=0&id=128&find=l39
I downloaded one to check it out. As with many FS2000 aircraft the AF textures are actually renamed 256 x 256 8 bit BMPs. Either way, they should display fine in CFS2 without any tweaking.

Space, I've noticed this with a couple of FS2K planes I've added to CFS2. However, even if they show up as just white in the aircaft selection list, when I select them and go flying all the textures show up just fine. If I now go back to the selection list, all the "white" planes have got their textures back.

I checked out those textures again in Imagetool. They show up as standard 8 bit BMPs with mips. AF textures can be automatically converted to this format with BMP2000. (Most are 256 x 256 but the size varies.) Some systems/video cards seem to have problems with textures converted using this method. You could try removing the mips in either Imagetool or DXTBmp. See this thread. http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=repnt;action=display;num=1049373563

Save as 8 bit BMP or one of the 16 bit Extended FS texture formats. I find Extended 16 bit 565 a good general format. Unless you know how to hex edit the MDL to recognise renamed textures they must be renamed with the original AF file extension.

I always thought that this was just a glitch caused by my now quite old video card!

There are so many variables these days, from different OS to video cards. I know from the amount of mail I get that certain texture formats cause problems on some systems. Removing mips or saving in a different format usually does the trick. My old Voodoo5 seems to cope well with all known FS texture formats, except the FS2002 reflective ones. I can live with that. ;)

OK This is my method but there's several different ways of doing it.. I'll use l39c_2k2.0AF as an example. Save the file as an Extended Image under the exact original file name including the AF file extension. DXTBmp will add the  BMP extension like this. l39c_2k2.0AF.bmp
Rename the file to remove the .bmp extension. I hope my suggestion works after all this. ;)

If you're 100% certain you did it correctly it might be best to forget it. Sorry.
