General discussion for CFS2 - WW 2 Pacific Theater

First post with query

Postby fnugen » Sun Jul 28, 2013 7:44 pm

I just found this treasuer trove site of files for my MS flight sims. I recently bought an Alienware laptop and have been moving everything over since it kicks ass in the graphics department. I put my CFS2 in, and after finding this site, just tonight actually, I downloaded the Tuskegee mod, but I can't see any of the planes or missions. I understand it's based in the Pacific theatre, but is there some way to get the Tuskegee mod to work with it's 109 missions and all the planes and such. I figured out where to put the files since I am not a first time mod installer.....I do lots of racing sims and add mods regularly. CFS2 modding is brand new to me. I'd love to play this mod, as I still enjoy CFS2 a lot. I appreciate any help provided.

Hi there. I've not been involved with CFS2 for a long time but have a lot of experience with configuring & troubleshooting campaigns.

I've just downloaded the Tuskegee campaign to check it out. This looks very complex & requires a lot of extra aircraft & other files to be installed for it to work. The Readme.doc files included with each campaign in the package need to be read carefully. The instructions include a long list of the required files & links to where these files can be downloaded from various websites. It's quite possible that some of these links are now dead which will further complicate matters.

This is without doubt the most complicated addon I have ever seen & I would hesitate to try installing it myself. I suggest starting with something less complex, preferably with all necessary files included in the package.

I didn't see a big list of required addons. The file I have just outlines the missions that were placed into segments. I downloaded it here. Is this the one you tried? After looking around, there is another Tuskegee mod that did have a long list, but I figured these were all included in the mod found in the mod available in the CFS2 section here. Here is the link to the file I downloaded.

Optional scenery

These missions are used on top of Sander’s scenery files for Europe, as well as Rhumbaflappy’s LOD mesh. It’s likely something you already have, but in case you do not, here are the instructions.

To make the terrain as realistic looking as possible, I’d make the following recommendations…install Rhumbaflappy’s LOD 5, 7, and 8 mesh, and the water masks.

His pages are here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/l ... 441&sort=d

My install guide for these files can be found here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/l ... 49&id=2932

Sander de Cocq’s fantastic coastlines and LandClass are an option for those who want the extra visuals. The files are zipped in four packages and can now be found at SOH!

Eurw: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/l ... 45&id=2697

cfs2_eurw_LC_su_BETA4: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/l ... 45&id=2696

SC_Eurw_FeaturePack: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/l ... 45&id=2695

Global_Exclude: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/l ... 45&id=2694

Once again, please feel free to use my guide, linked to above, for installing this scenery. These packages contain everything you need.

Misc

1) You will need to have the expanded country.cfg file installed. If you do not have this feature, find it here: http://www.microsoft.com/games/combatfs ... ountry.cfg (Just cut 'n' paste this from the page to your country.cfg file)

Wow!!! I did not see that. Thank you very much. Sadly this is the one mod jaws really look forward to flying. Oh well I guess I go back and delete the files and start with something smaller. Thank you for the help. I am on vacation in two weeks so maybe I'll take it upon then.

Good luck with that. I suggest you get a bit of practice with installing missions/campaigns first. As I said earlier, even with all my experience I would hesitate to try installing it myself. Some of those links are dead & just one missing file could upset the whole thing.

If you do try it may I suggest a duplicate install of CFS2 especially for the Tuskegee campaign.
