installing with Windows XP

Postby indyfrogman » Tue Jul 13, 2004 6:07 pm

Has anybody successfully installed CFS2 on XP?  I get the infamous "error has occurred"  Details speak of ebu6b.exe.  The error occurs after I choose NEXT in the Bicycle Games Setup window.  I shutdown all other active programs including virus protection but no help.

I don't use XP myself & have very little knowledge of it. However, I know many people including members of this forum who run CFS2 happily on XP with no problem at all. This applies to all the M$ sims. I don't think your problem is with CFS2. Maybe an XP user can suggest something.

Thanks.  I already have FS2004 installed and it's working just fine.  CFS2 never gets to the point of installing.  "Calculating hard disk space" is the last message I see before the error.  I'm guessing a video or sound card incompatibility.  I'll get the info on that on my next post.

I'll run diagnostics on the hard drive.  Another thought:  since I've already installed FS2004 using the Bicycle Games installation interface (what's up with that anyway??), I also suspect that, since the CFS2 is older, there might be an issue trying to run an earlier version of the BC installation SW.  I'm thinking of uninstalling the FS2004 and Bicycle Games interface completely, installing CFS2, then FS2004, which would then be an upgrade.  Any thoughts?

And what the heck is up with the De Havilland in FS2004!  It flies like a cow!

ref the DH Comet:  I'm using a new Logitech Extreme 3D joystick and I couldn't hardly keep it off the ground, esp at lower RPM.  Back stick wouldn't help in the turns or keeping the nose up.  I also agree, it was difficult to handle after landing.  But then, it's my first twin engine flight and the thing does seem to have a lot of mass/enertia.

Sorry, next time I'll post this comment to the FS2004 forum.

That was a good story. Thanks.  I'm sure I will enjoy CFS2.  I "earned my wings" on the F117A which, because of the unrealistic flying characteristics built in, provided me many hours of air-to-air combat enjoyment.  Nothing more thrilling than waxing somebody.  Looking forward to doing it the old fashioned way, without the benefit of radars and missles and such.  Just guns against guns.

Hey Indyfrogman,

Welcome to the fourm :)

What is the Bicycle Games installation interface?

I'm running CFS2 on XP Home, installed properly without any problems :)

Regards,
Stratobat

What is the Bicycle Games installation interface?

Could this be the little rascal? http://www.microsoft.com/games/bicycle/board/
Note it's a M$ product. I reckon it's quite likely there's some sort of conflict with the CFS2 setup program. I had similar conflicts with my existing CFS2 installations when I first tried to run CFS3 & FS9. Clicking the shortcut brought up the CFS2 EULA instead of the correct ones & the PC locked solid 9 times out of 10. I finally fixed it when the No-CD patches were posted & had no trouble since.

I think it's about time that M$ sorted themselves out. ::)

It looks like it's going to install card games, but when you continue through it, the files being copied/created are for the fligh sim.  The sim installs under the Bicycle Games diretory.  Wierdest thing.  After all this discussion, I'm going to uninstall the FS2004 and try to install the CFS2 package.

Thanks for all the replies.  Looks like a good group.  Is CFS2 online capable??  If so, maybe I'll meet some of you in the skies over the Pacific.  If so, watch your six.

You can play CFS2 on the Zone, but I gotta agree with Hagar , get it installed & running first :)
