Need mouse help...

Does anyone know how to change the magneto and fuel tank selection commands from a mouse click to a keystroke?

The mouse operates gauges on the panel. You should be able to assign keys for these commands from Settings/Controller Assignments.

Hi Prof
I have built a Magneto switch for my pit and it uses the "-" and "=" commands to activate the mags.

This is the same setup as in CFS1 however you have to assign a keystroke to the magneto command.

So to operate the mag switch you have to first hit the key that you assigned to the mags , this then allows the sim to respond to the increase/decrease selection via the "-" and "=" keys.

Say for instance you choose the "R" key for the mags then the command line would be--
Hit "R" key
then hit "=" key three times to turn both mags on--
then hit and hold the "=" key again until the engine fires. (you must have batt on and full rich, fine pitch etc or motor won;t start)

The "-" key will turn off the mags in the same way or allow you to toggle between them to check for rpm drop--cool hey!

Now this is complicated to replicate these keystrokes into some form of switch for your pit.

I used a two-bit grey code encoder with an auxillary on/off switch and this drives an encoder cct that has two output relays for the "-" and ""=" keys which wire to a bashed keyboard.
The auxillary switch is a momentary switch that

Thanks Chuck!  Got the mag switch key command to work.  I wasn't thinking about combining the increase/decrease selection command with it.  Doh!  Now if I can just crack the code to the fuel selector, I'll be set!

No worries , glad I could help.
I was thinking about the switch arrangement for your pit .
Are you going to use a rotary type switch like I have have to simulate the Mustang arrangement or are you going to use two toggle switches for the mags. (like in the spit )

The reason I ask is that  using the two toggle switches may be easier to build than the way I went.

I will have a play around in the shed and see what comes up.

cheers

I have an old magneto switch that I was hoping to modify with a rotary pulse switch (which are tricky to locate).  I'm using a Hagstrom encoder, so I don't have to worry about key repeat.

So,  does anyone have any ideas on how to switch fuels tanks without using the mouse?

Hi prof

You maybe able to do something with getting the fuel switch to work in cfs2 if you have FSUIPC installed.
This s/w allows you to get into the command area of the sim and apply keystrokes (offsets?) to the sim which it will then respond to.

The graphic animation should still work ok because the fuel switch animation responds to the mouse.

FSUIPC will work with CFS1 and CFS2 however not all of the functionality as compare to FS2002 etc would be available but you would have to try it out.
You could maybe ask Peter Dowson this question on his site.

FSUIPC however WILL NOT WORK with cfs3 in any shape or form. This means you can never get any instruments/gauges to work that you build, you cannot extract any data to drive a motion platform, you can't even extract any of the gauges in software to extend onto a seperate monitor (VC only). >:(

However I still love/hate cfs3 so I'll just go away and shut up about it. :'(

Lets us know how it works out. ;D

Thanks Chuck.  I have thought that I might be able to use FSUIPC to drive my instruments, but hadn't considered it's use for any command inputs.  I'll look into it.

Hi prof

you could check out this site for a new FS interface program called FSIM.

This allows access into the game and I 've asked Leo if his s/ware would work with CFS2 and he says it will.

Have a look in the support forums for my thread on this.

Could be just the thing you need . ;)

Also there is great hardware on this site for simpits, I have the Plasma unit and it has worked fault free for two years.

cheers
chuck

ps : guess what ? FSIM software WILL NOT work with CFS3-- why am I not surprised!! >:(
