CFS2 panel questions

Postby piersyf » Fri Oct 21, 2005 8:10 pm

Hi all, back again; this time with a question on panel.cfg files.

Have downloaded an Ar234 Blitz bomber, just 'cus I think they're cute planes. For those who don't know, their defensive armament was fixed and faced to the rear and was aimed by the pilot by periscope. The periscope is rendered in the 2d/3d forward view, but with no 'image' in it. In the VC, the view scans the cockpit (as it should) but in 2d when you look back you just see the bulkhead behind you (rendered from the 3d file).

I thought it'd be cool to put a .bmp of a closeup of the periscope (with sight reticule) in the 'rear' view of the 2d cockpit as this is how the pilot would look 'back' in the real plane, and also allow the guns to be aimed.

I used cfgedit to place a test .bmp and got it to show, except the bulkhead also shows, so I get a gunsight facing a blank wall (not very useful).

I have looked at the panel.cfg file in notepad and tried changing the 'render 3d cockpit' line from '1' to '0' with no change.

I then deleted that line all together from that view (window), again with no change.

What am I missing?  ???

I think the rear view mirror by Smashing Time is what you're looking for. Just use an appropriate .bmp file to represent the periscope body/ cross wire.
I use it on the YAS spifires and it's included in the YAS_pack.zip at Avsim and SOH. Should be able to find the original over at SOH.'

Downloaded the YAS spits and installed them. Great panel, the mirror is exactly the effect I was after, but it didn't work on the Ar234. I think the panel is configured (coded?) differently. Oh well, got a new 'seat' in the spitfire 'office' at least. When I get time, I may need to attempt a new panel from the components I have already.
