CFS1 Objects In CFS2?

Postby tiger63 » Sat Aug 21, 2004 2:25 pm

Is there a way to make the CFS1 objects work in CFS2? I wanted to convert some of the CFS1 missions to CFS2 so I'm gonna need the objects.

Thanks, Will

Hi Will. Despite what it says on the M$ site I don't think it's practical to convert the CFS1 missions for CFS2. I'm sure someone will correct me but I never heard of anyone who did it successfully. If they had done so surely the updated missions would be posted somewhere. ::)

It would be much better & probably easier to write your own missions from scratch. The CFS1 missions work best in CFS1. IMHO

Thanks for the input. BUT the CFS1 Bob-Raf and Bfe-Luftwaffe campaigns have both been converted cfs2. Anyways, i think most of the cfs1 objects are already in cfs2.

Thanks for the help,
Will

Greetings simmers,

I have converted quite a few of the CFS1 missions over to CFS2 successfully. But like Hagar (Doug? is that you?) said, it's a lot of trouble. It requires lot's of testing to be done correctly.

In many cases compromises must be made. CFS2 just doesn't do bomber attack/escort like CFS1 did. Shame really, but it's the truth. And as this is what CFS1 was mostly about, you must really pick and choose the leftovers from there on. They can be done, but they ain't gonna turn out like the originals. The ai would just as soon dogfight as attack bombers, no matter how much tampering you do with the mission files.

What does work pretty well are ground attack missions. But even with these you are at the mercy of the ai for the particular planes you decide to use. Also the straight up furball type stuff is doable, but very limiting in scope.

Now having said that, I am pretty happy with the way many of em turned out. But I can't stress this enough, I spent days, sometimes weeks, and in some cases months on each conversion. I'm pretty fanatical about my testing though, they can be done quicker, they'll just end up very "generic".

Some of mine have so many triggers and events in em, they'll make your head spin if you open up the hood and check em out.

If you're really serious about it, the CFS1 objects are already there (at least they are in my old, old, old copy of CFS2).

If you'd like to save yourself numerous headaches, I have a whole slew of em available on my web site. http://www.geocities.com/brooky1969. And there's more on the way. Plus there are some good things headed our way, (if you are an ETO fanatic like myself). New scenery techniques and more.

I went through the process of trying to upload em here, but I'm using lots of aircraft and or other items that are located elsewhere, so the policy (understandably) was to upload only packages that used parts that could be found here on-site. I will look em over again and see if I have any that meet that criteria.

Hi Michael. Yes it's me. Thanks for your helpful comments. Nice to know some of the old stagers are still around. ;)

Thanks again. This was just something I was playing around with on a cloudy Saturday. I really wish someone else out there had already converted all of the CFS missions to save me the headache.  Could either of you point me to some European missions. I've only seen a handful around here.

Thanks a lot,
Will

Tiger, just click on this link http://www.geocities.com/brooky1969.

There's 14 of em there, I have one completely finished that I'm waiting to upload, and I have several more in various stages of completion. Some downloading may be required, but everything you need is linked to right there on my page.

Doug,

I thought it might be you. Good to see ya still around sharing the wisdom. Thanks for all your effort over these many years. No telling how many distraught simmers have benefitted from your kindness.  ;)

I remember when I first discovered Simviation. Way back when the "Simcombat" site was still around. Boy that goes back a ways. I thought I had hit the jackpot. No telling how many mb's of files I've downloaded from here over the years. Good stuff!
