P-38J-25-LO

Postby Latigo » Wed Oct 30, 2002 9:54 am

Hey all,
I downloaded Blue Arrow's P-38J-25-LO. The download was an executable file, that automatically installs. It seems to have installed correctly, but when I try Free Flight, it shows up, but cannot display the model with errors.

Has anyone encountered this?

Hang on to your rivets

Hehe. I do need to sleep sometimes.  :P

Are you using WinXP? if so, I suspect the bug which causes conflicts with some earlier designs. My first suggestion is to try patching the MDL with the FS2000 Model Repair Utility. http://www.simviation.com/fs2000utilities_gen2.htm
It works for all M$ sims as the conflict is with the OS & not the sim.

Please tell me if this helps.

Hagar,
Well I fixed the .mdl file as you indicated, and now get this fatal error when I try to select the aircraft in free flight:

[Mission file error]
error=Unit 9231 needs to be a member of a formation
title=War Comes to Wake Island
filename=D:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 2\CAMPAIGNS\hn1b_usn

A sneaky suspicion:

Hi Latigo. I'm a tad rusty with CFS2 matters as I absconded to FS2002 for a while.  ::)
I'm sure I've used this aircraft many times with no problems. You should get no mission errors from Free Flight. That sounds more like a Mission Builder error message to me.

I guess the only way for me to check this out is to find the file, download it & try it myself. If it's under 10 Mb I'll be happy to do it when convenient but please don't expect an instant reply.  ;)

Preciate it Hagar. That was in the error.log.

The download was under 10Mb; 8.5 I believe.

Yeah, I downloaded it over a 56k.... so I was not pleased when it did not work.

I'll look into it more and post if I find anything.

What editor do you use for repainting?

Thanx

OK, I'll try it later. A link to the download page would help. I'll even take my life in my hands & use the auto-install gizmo. I never trusted those darned things & prefer to direct the install to a Temp folder. Then install manually in the usual way.

Just to clarify. Error.log only lists mission errors & will not help with bugs with the aircraft or Free Flight problems.

For repainting CFS2 aircraft I use the latest DXTBmp in conjunction with PSP7. This is usually all you need. If you don't have PSP any decent paint program/graphics editor should be fine.

Yes Sb. Maybe I should have been more specific to avoid confusion with Photoshop (which is equally suitable). Paint Shop Pro is commonly referred to as PSP. ;)

OK, I tried it. Well I assume it's the right file. ba_p38ja.zip here. http://www.simviation.com/cfs2aircraft13.htm
Nothing unusual about it at all. It's just the aircraft with its own panel & sound files. The auto-install is fine & it works perfectly for me.

As I'm on WinMe I have no way of knowing if it's affected by that XP bug I mentioned. The aircraft is by Roger Dial so I somehow doubt it. If you're using WinXP & patched the MDL as I suggested I'm out of ideas. Sorry.

Hey Hagar.
Yep, thats the one. I'll re-patch it making sure I have the right one.

I have Win 2000 Pro, and haven't had any probs with it.

Installed CFS3 last night. Kind of a let down. Course I only have the GForce 2. Maybe an upgrade will help it along.

Thanx for your time and effort Hagar.

my operating system is XP_Pro.

I have all of ggryphons aircraft and I have not had any issues with them.

How ever I ran into the same error message that you described.

I had to reduce the number of aircraft in the aircraft folder. I was well over a 100. Sometimes it is the magical 100 and some times is is 85 aircraft. CFS_2 counts every file and folder in the aircraft folder as an aircraft.

To fix this I down loaded Martin W airplane hangar. Good tool you can import and export aircraft with the click of the button. You can create extra hangars as well.

There is a Link to Martin W on this web sight under links.

Hope this helps
