I fully understand the need for revenue but can you not pick and choose advertisers? I disable my AdAware and now I have sidebar pictures of "Do you want to date Arab women?" with an accompanying large botty woman looking provocatively at me just as SWMBO walks in the room and now thinks I am looking for porn.

Tell me....What interest will get me adverts for large bottomed Arab women? .... ...!

These are google adsense ads.

The ads displayed are NOT chosen by us but are delivered by google based in some way on your PC's browsing history. I am not saying you have been looking at fat bottomed women but something on your pc has directed that ad to your browser.

If you start looking at a ford car online you will then see ads about ford cars, for example.

Well considering I just reinstalled win10 on a brand new drive there was no browsing history which suggests to me then that Google are less than squeaky clean. Oh what a surprise.

But isn't that the real problem, Pete? I like to see a pretty gal, sure, but I don't care to have images of prostitutes and skanks on my screen when I visit simviation. It's those ads that are doing the damage to the site, to many other web sites, and ad blockers are, it seems, the only recourse for those of us who don't want our spouses and kids seeing that slutty stuff ... especially when WE are using the pc. Not that complaining to Google AdSense will do much good, because we all know how unresponsive big corporations are when it comes to anything reducing profits. But I hope they get some negative feedback about the unwanted, misplaced ads that are way out of line for a simulation hobby site. There are reports that the advertising community is trying to promote "voluntary" standards for web ads, eliminate the annoying flashing gifs and such. That's surely a positive response to the incredible increase of ad-blocker use and all those lost advertising dollars. But there's still way, way too many inappropriate and unwanted ads being sent our way.

If you find the adds offensive, refresh the page and maybe a less offensive add will show up. Personally, I just basically ignore them. No big deal.

In the past, I've gotten inappropriate ads on Simviation, that had nothing to do with my browsing.


Six months ago I was looking for a rental car, 3,000 miles away, in the Seattle area. I'm STILL getting ads to buy/lease/rent a car six months later.


Yesterday I went online to a battery website, and guess what - Today I'm seeing TWO (2) sections of REVOLVING/ANIMATED ads to buy batteries displayed on Simviation.

Luckily, the offensive ads are on the download part of SimV where I hardly go any longer. The main forum section just has static ads.


I know that you aren't by any means getting rich, Pete. And I can't think of any better way to cover your costs.

Someone suggested a "Donation Button". It might be worthwhile to try it.


Many sites that get your payment information and sign you up for life, making it an matter of having to go to your bank to stop payments for future "memberships". So I simply never do it.

Therefor I never return to the sites that require you to pay a yearly fee.

But there are three sites that I DO make occasional donations to via PayPal. But maybe that's just me.

Can you post a screenshot of an example of those ads?

(Donations are a joke -- you get $3, $5 ...and the like.) The forums are meant to be for site users who use our files which are undoubtably some of the best out there. Simviation is a website aimed and based around freeware. There are sites out there airmed at exactly the opposite - payware. Simviation was created for freeware and will always remain with that as our focus. The forums don't really represent this focus any more in some ways. The forums also make zero money on ads -- Nothing. Says something.
However there are many 100's times more users on the main site than the forums and that is what matters.

Is this offensive? Of course not.
And I can guarantee you that I have done ABSOLUTLY NO searches of this kind. But sometimes non search related ads pop up on Simviation.




Believe me, I KNOW that you don't have any control over the ads that are displayed here.




Understand - I AM NOT attacking you. But MOST "subscription" do have a down side.

Does Simviation automaticly renew your "subscription" every year? Or do they ASK if they can renew it?

Simviation certainly does not auto renew. A reminder is sent and a link if users want to renew.

$19.95 for 12 Months (That's less than $1.70 per month) ... and no 'auto renewal'. At the end of your year, you decide if you wish to renew and if you do nothing you will not be recharged.

That top ad is very wrong. It is outsized and I have never seen or had reported - any ad creep down on the page - through probably 100 pc's in differet countries. Even on android view.

My ad blocker is turned off for Sim V, and to tell you the troof, I never really notice the ads at the top and bottom of the Forum pages.

There's probably nothing there to interest me, anyway*

It certainly doesn't keep me awake at nights!.... ....!

There are lots more other things in life which annoy me!...
...like all the thorn bushes and brambles growing at the bottom of my garden!... ...!

It's not that the ads are, normally, annoying. Some may move more around more than others, but they don't flash or play videos (the most evil of evils).

Simviation has mostly non-intrusive ads.

For me, it's an irritation that no matter where you go, the advertisers are following you. From one site to the next.


Think of this, Paul - You go to your apothecary for hemorrhoid cream so you can ride your motorcycle to Sainsbury's.

Sainsbury's keeps track of your online searches and gives you a coupon for hemorrhoid cream.

Sainsbury's sells your shopping list to anyone who wants to buy it. NHS buys it, and notices that you've been buying too many foods with too much cholesterol.

NOW you're in trouble.

How do I know all that about you?

Because I bought Sainsbury's and NHS lists.
