New SimV Main Page

Postby Travis » Wed Jun 09, 2010 4:22 am

I can say I'm not a big fan.

Of course, no one asked my opinion on the matter (I know you find that hard to believe) but I still think it is a little more militaristic than necessary.  Sure, we all like the occasional military aircraft, but not all of us are jet-nuts.  I know Foz is with me on this one: props rock the socks off of fighter jocks.

I'm not really against military FS (I think IRIS's contributions for the last few years are fan-friggin-tastic) but I DO think that the front page of SimV should stay a non-militaristic image.

Just my opinion: I could be wrong . . .

...funnily enuf... :o...!

I've only just noticed it, now that Trav has mentioned it....

I normally route direct to the "Menu" page.

But as Trav has said, it is a bit scary, for we General Aviation types more used to gently cruising the light blue skies in our GA/Commercial Piston Props, (and Passenger Jets), etc... :o...!

All this frantic, warfare activity on the front page worries me, and my little Cessna 150!...We are afraid to "Enter"!...:o...!

Paul...G-BPLF... FS 2004...and lots of GA "stuff".... ;).... ;D....!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

Although most of my time is spent messing with the (mostly) propellered planes of CFS, I occasionally fly something else. In fact, the military planes I've reverted to FS2002 are non-military -- I pull the trigger and the brakes are engaged (not that it does much good in the simulated air... rather breathtaking).
For a long flight, such as from the U.S. to Ireland, to England (I think I once crash-landed on Fozzer's roof), I'll often fly a jet-powered acft.

First time I've seen it - certainly wouldn't attract the low and slow guys although they did toss us a bone with the "Winnie Mae"

It reflects what's popular --- Military is by far & away the most popular category in this hobby (at least at this site) -- like it or not -- with civil jets being 2nd (along with misc items like space craft), then props, scenery ... misc items, then vintage ...

There is a low & slow on there plus scenery but it could do with a civil jet .... and maybe something else too ...

I have to agree and say that it's a bit too military themed. I think something showing all types of aircraft would fit better, since SimV isn't a mainly military add-on site.

Just my two cents. It's just an opinion. It's OK, it'll be alright!  ;D

You got to go with your best suit.  I'm registered on almost all of them but this is the only one I'll gladly help pay for.

I like the page also. It's a step up from the old one.

Interesting how it works, being a civilian simulator and all!

I agree, Simviation is renound for its variety of aircraft, not just Military. The whole main page is flooded with Military Aircraft, which could put new-comers off entering the site.
It does look very nice and modern, better than the old one, but it could do with some more Civil Aircraft, like a 747 or a MD-11/DC-10.
