A question about Simviation Fourms

Postby Pepsuber » Fri Aug 08, 2008 11:05 am

Hello,

Yesterday, My quote thing was "What would MacGyver do", and now, without me even changing it, it says "Please Upload all Images to Simviation!"

Linking images to other sites is against the regs... ;)

Linking images to other sites can slow the forums down, so we're required to simply upload it to the SimV server to post images.

Hi Michael,

Not supposed to link images as it slows the site down for everyone, so the moderators just deleted the link and left you a friendly reminder to upload your image to the simv server.

To be fair, did any members read the regs before joining this forum.. and any other forum for that matter? I didn't I must admit.
For the record I didn't change the avatar, but would have if I'd seen it first.
Michael, the above members are all correct, linking images does slow the forum down for other users which is why the admins ask that all images are uploaded to the SimV server.

If you'd like to send me your image, or a link to your image I'll gladly upload it for you and place it in your avatar.. as would any other mod/admin. We're here to make the site run smoother, not "Police" the forum and will do all we can to help.

Enjoy your stay here  :)

It's been so long since I joined that I couldn't remember if I had or not, but Pete has little reminders all over the forums

Michael, one more thing....unfortunately you'll have to re-upload your avatar, as it's way over the weight limit of 10k.

Download irfanview (if you don't have it) http://www.irfanview.com/ and install and open your picture in it, then go to save it but before you hit save where you are choosing to save it make sure that the file format is Jpg or J-peg (it should be above the filename) once you have done that there should be a menu on the top right side... the is a bar at the top of this menu... moving this bar will increase and decrease the size/ quality (sometimes) of the picture after you save... play around with this untill you get it right ;)

Another reason for not linking to images hosted outside of SimV's server is that it is possible for that image file to get hacked or replaced with an "inappopriate" one  ( ...if you catch my drift  ;) ).  If the image is hosted by SimV, at least we are in control of the security of the image files.  If it is hosted elsewhere, we are then depending on the integrity of someone elses file security.

best,
