Why upload images??

Postby Josve » Tue Jan 11, 2005 12:22 pm

I just dont get the sense in that I HAVE to upload my images to this site when I wan't to post in the screenshots forum, when I have them stored on my own server with unlimited bandwidth?? This seems to be the option for those without webspace on their ISP's servers.

In that case I use both the space and the bandwidth of the Simviation server....and I really dont get the sense.....

When I link to my pics on my own server I don't burden Simviaton with either space or bandwidth

I'm hoping for a mature and logical answer and not just "thats the way it is" thing.....

Space & bandwidth have nothing to do with it. We are talking processor activity & overall efficiency of this website - not just the forums.

It has to do with how the server fetches images from other sites.

There are many reasons that this causes drag - not to mention the secondary effects where folk will post very large images which can cause other processor problems & many sites will prevent refernces from external sites .....

The forums are a very small part of this site & we have to prioritise our main users who are using the simviation website.

addfitionally

Thanks for explaining Pete!

And I don't know why some of the shots are over 100k.....my typical pics is around 50k.....
Maybe I have to increase the jpg comperession some more.
