FORUMS MOVING TO NEW SERVER

PostPosted: Mon Feb 18, 2013 6:07 pm

Having completed the main site move into our new hosts, the forums will be next.

After the move it is planned to convert the forums into a new format.

The aim is to upgrade the forums with minimal inconvenience for you guys. Yabb has become unstable with regular lockouts for users who log off. The upgrade should fix this and other things.

However there  WILL be some disruption/downtime for the forums. Obviously this will be kept to a minimum.

Information will be posted on the main site front page when the move starts.

Thank you  :)

Well the 1st stage started today but took 5 hours -- by which time Marin, our server guru, had the girlfriend about to walk out ....

... so we're going to give it another attempt tomorrow - this time starting early.  8-)

1st stage now complete. The forums are now in the new server.

We'll make sure everything is working as normal before converting into the new PHP format.

OK today's attempts at conversion failed due to the number of posts.

Tomorrow we are making a copy of the forums so we will not be closing the forums until we know we have a working method and will only experiment on the copy.

Apologies for the downtime.

Pete

OK made huge progress today - Server admin guru Marin managed to convert the whole 1.2m posts etc - thought we were ready to go - then discovered a BIG core problem that would have caused every link to be wrong.

So we are continuing tomorrow.
