It is very important that we must keep a stiff upper-lip, think furiously of the meaning of life and everything, and retain an acute sense of humour, during times of great adversity...

..(...like problems with the Sim V Forum).... :o...!

At the moment, I don't envy Pete his job!

Seems to be working at this moment ...... but not counting my eggs until I see it OK for the next few hours.

A lot of work and help sought on guru forums to get this fixed. All day yesterday and until now this has been almost non stop to get this fixed.

So we're back to square one as far as the conversion goes .... -- but I've never been more pleased to at least be at square one again. (hopefully!!)

Actually I would have not been so stressed if this were the case.

... I EMLOYED someone to convert the forums into a php forum ... turns out he knew nothing about server admin which is a crucial part of what was necesssary.

Quite a big thread at the yabb forum later, I finally found a solution to get it back to what it was before.

Conversion plans still in place ... just need to be more specific about the required skills next time.

I have always been curious as to how much actual memory space is required to store the whole content of an Internet Site, like Simviation, on a single Hard Drive, or similar device?

Paul.

Yabb 2.5 = 7Mb = yes I said like seven megabytes

Simviation yabb plus PICs and text from all the members plus data base 100 mb to a thousand Gb ..I really have no clue

I don't know anything about servers but what about a simulation a rehearsal ?
a mean why don't you copy the entire simviation yabb forum into another(s) hard drive(s)  and then make the conversion to php in other folder without touching the current yabb forum  Tongue

that way you would get stress in the case things wouldn't work fine ,and clock ticking wouldn't matter

Nice idea Alex but the server runs on a completely differnt OS and system to my PC's .. and it also would mean setting up a home PC in the same configuration as a web  server -- which has paths to various programs like mysql (e.g. - may be in folder1/folderb/folderc/) ... even the paths on a windows pc are different as they use \ instead of / ..... .. so you'd you need a linux OS with php, etc .... (some people do this)
