Forums haircut

Postby pete » Thu Feb 23, 2006 6:18 am

I've deleted the 1st year of threads on this forum. Mainly FS2002 has been trimmed with the post count being about halved in that forum.

Hopefully no bad side to this. Part of keeping things trim & useable.

Now I am hoping users will be able to register during peak times - which they haven't been able to do lately.

If not may have to trim a little more off the bottom ...

Good news for all those elderly (or not so elderly?) members still with a goodly crop of hair....;D...!

...do I detect it's time for a larger (expensive) hard drive, Pete... ;)...?

LOL... ;D...!

Cheers...!

It's not the disc space - it's the weight of the forums & how the scripts can handle the number of posts -

Yabb simply doesn't perform well over about 400K posts & it's an ongoing thing to make things work OK.

Isn't there some way you can save the parts of the forum less visited like the FS98 board to a seperate website and link to it to take some of the weight off this forum? Perhaps also its time for a picture delete of anything upto as recent as 3 to 6 months old.  ???

I'm all for the eradication of FS98 and the weight of it on the site downloads section.

Could shave the screenshot and photo forums a bit.  If i'm not mistaken all pictures were deleted from a year back.  All those now empty threads are still hanging around without any shots in them ;)

Can't be done. It's all or nothing. Individual boards can't be individually cropped.

If they could I would keep the graphics section at 30 days all the time.

Pete, Why not just delete all the threads more than 18 months old? Ok the occasional person searches for the answer they want, otherwise they just ask anyway. So I really cant see much harm in a significant removal.

Because a lot of the tutorials - particularly design - go back further.

One design tutorial is worth 1000 ordinary threads.   :)
