Would there be any interest in adding a section specifically for mini-reviews and feedback of specific addons?

Actually, that's not a bad idea! :D

It is a great idea in theory. We tried it in the past. A small number of people contributed but as usual there was little effort from the majority of members so the section was deleted with about 15 entries in 6 months ...

In this hobby, out of every 1000 people,  999 people use what 1 person gives.

This is why we treat contributors with huge respect. It's what they deserve.

So if we were so inclined to offer up an unsolicited review, what would be some guidelines?  A couple of paragraphs, perhaps posted in the Payware section, for instance?  Obviously I'm not talking along the lines of Avsim-style, comprehensive stuff;  Just something to kick start some conversation about our favorite or most hated add ons!  :)

This would definitely be a non no for freeware.

I could probably name 8 talented designers that started out with designs that bounced all over the place, had opposite rudder movements, uneven textures, etc, on their 1st aircraft releases.

People grow through encouragement -- and visa versa. Freeware development is something you have paid nothing for. If you don't like it - delete it - but don't criticise someone who has done this for free.

If you want to review a payware release -- the payware forum is there for that purpose too :). Of course if you pay for something you are entitled to criticise it if you don't like it .... particularly if you cannot return it for your money back.

I believe that's what happened to Mike Stone, and it's a huge loss to the FS community because of it.  :'(

Negative reviews lead to trouble. If you felt compelled to put something up it'd have to be a positive review, this is in keeping with our support of freeware and its developers.
We've had mini-reviews a few times over the years but it always seems to die a death in a few months once the contributors realise how much work is involved for a small return.
Mind you the up side is doing good reviews of peoples work can often lead to beta-testing work which has to be the most fun job in the FS world. I've been honoured to test for both freeware developers and payware companies and love it. It is an amazing feeling to know you're first to play with a new product 8-)
