Since it appears MSFS is becoming a deadend, I'm seriously thinking about a purchase but need some informed opinions before parting with the cash.

The FIRST think an MS Flightsimmer needs to get through his head is that X-plane is NOT MSFS.  Unfortunately, it's "close enough" that you can easily get confused, and then the '"buts".

As long as you approach it as a completely new experience, great.

It's not "better" than MSFS, and MSFS is not "better" than X-Plane.

If you're looking for MSFS FS-X eye candy, it's still in the FS2002. just about getting to FS2004 stage.  (my almost uninformed opinion)

Horses of a different color, so to speak.

I agree with Shane 100%...I do think there is room for improvement as far as AI, adding aircraft buildings, updated ATC....as far as eye candy I think the main issue with X-Plane is the lack of third part support.  The X-Plane development team is small compared to MSFS and they need more third part support to help bring the sim up to FSX or FS9 level.

Personally Im gonna live without those few things and continue to enjoy this fantastic sim for awhile. I do think XP is a bit more user friendly for us cockpit builders ;)

I've done both and just programming the joystick in X-Plane is enough to make you want to put your fist through your screen...
