Avatar Size Changes?

Well, this has been bugging me for a while: all of the avatars that are not 100x100 pixels get stretched to 100x100...why so?
Like mine...
now look at it below my name. This happens on most cases, or at least, to me.

PS. If it worries you that much you could modify the image by adding a border to make it 100 pixel width. Then save it in GIF format making the border transparent. Try this one.
