So here is what we have so far; all mentions of pete removed.... I guess he doesn't want hordes of adoring fans from the wiki pages to add to the ones he's already got here. ;D

---------------------------------------------

Simviation (www.simviation.com), sometimes known as 'SimV' or 'The V' is a specialised website for users of Microsoft's Flight Simulator and Combat Flight Simulator franchise. It was founded as "The Strip" in 1998. The website hosts freeware aircraft, scenery, and other miscellaneous files and utilities for use by flight simulator enthusiasts. These range from FS98 to the most recent FSX, and for all three releases in the Combat Flight Simulator franchise. It is currently considered to be one of the top three sites dedicated to flight simulation [1], along with avsim.com and flightsim.com

Simviation offers free downloads to all users, in keeping with the underlying Microsoft Flight Simulator freeware ethos, and also offers a membership system where users can pay a small annual fee to recieve faster download speeds.

Wow that was an old page - from 1998.

Google is useful for some info - totally useless for others.

The way to find top FS sites is to use something like Alexa which is a rough value on site popularity. You can do comparisons.

See this
http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 725046/0#0

The forums should be given a mention but not headlines as they are only about 5% of our pageviews. Software is irrelevant ... ;) the forums Design areas - studio, comps, etc - these are the areas that have the greatest output in terms of unique talent that we should be proud of being a home to.

I'll think about the rest but keep 'em coming! (ideas that is) :)

Something's just occurred to me... this is simv's 10th year!!

Do you know roughly when in 1998 simv aka the strip started up... I love specifics... :D

I shall post a revised edit soon. ;)

EDIT; here we are; changes in bold.

I had a feeling that graph would come in handy :P

I just had another look at how we are going, and the results are still the same. I also stumbled along another thing on the Alexa website. It is a list of flight simulator websites, ordered by popularity. We come in second. Flightsim is first, an avsim doesn't even get a mention on the front page.

...hosted in direct relation to Simviation itself...

"hosted by Simviation" would be a little less of a tongue twister. :)

yes, but saying that isn't correct; it's a totally different website associated with simv, rather than a site hosted as a sub-section of simv.

Well HJG's homepage does say "website hosted by Simviation.com", as does Doug's Lair. ;)

I struggle to comprehend exactly what "hosted in direct relation to" means. :)

What nit-pickers we are... ;D

'hosted' is the wrong word to put in front of that sentence I'll admit... I'll replace it with 'associated with...'...

I read through everyone's comments above, and I had not seen this mentioned yet, so . . .

I just wanted to let you know that if you have a problem with article vandalism (as was mentioned before), you can request that Wikipedia limit access to editing the article or freeze the ability to edit the article period.  I know they do this from time to time on various articles that are prone to vandalism.

After all the hard work people are putting into writing up an article about SimV for Wikipedia and after all the hard work Pete and the Mod's have put into making SimV a place worthy of a glowing Wikipedia article, it is nice to know that the vandals can be kept at bay.

All the best!

I think it's not a bad article now - thanks!

The thing that Wiki doesn't want to see is promotion. What they do want is objective information.

I'll mull this & hopefully tomorrow go over it in detail.

Only just found this thread - looking good chaps!

Perhaps we could write smaller subarticles about Studio V and other specific forums on the site, or would that not be wholly necessary? (if you think we could I'd be happy to contribute something :))
